Can anyone give me some insight on these two? I have been feeding Zignature Catfish. My Frenchie seems to be allergic to any poultry and beef. Iā€™m considering the switch as she seems to itch sometimes and has small amount of tear stains. Thing is Zignature has worked the best thus far and I canā€™t say her symptoms ow arenā€™t environmentally caused. However Iā€™m curious to see if it minimizes her symptoms even more than Zignature has done.

Thanks !

Raw isnā€™t an option. And Iā€™ve tried Fromm, Acana, Orijen, Nulo and a few others the last 2 yrs

I wouldn't switch to Taste of the Wild as it's not a limited ingredient product, which is what you want for an allergic dog. I would try switching to a limited ingredient dog food from another product line, like Acana Singles or Earthborne Holistics Venture line. Try another protein as well, like duck or rabbit.

You say raw is not an option, how about dehydrated raw ? Honest Kitchen makes a limited ingredient dehydrated raw line. This will be even less allergenic than a regular dog kibble.

Zignature is a great food and itā€™s limited ingredients. They have other proteins you can try. My bulldog gets it for his am meal and I buy the 4 pound bags and will rotate between the goat, kangaroo, pork and salmon once one bag ends. They have duck and turkey as well and some others too.

I disagree with you to stay within the Zignature line. If you compare ingredients of Zignature duck to Acana duck for example you will see they differ slightly so it's worth switching to see if it works better and it's probably not the healthiest thing for a dog to get the exact same ingredient dog food with only the protein changing for the rest of his life:
Acana Duck and Pear :
Deboned duck, duck meal, whole lentils, whole peas, duck liver, duck fat, lentil fiber, pears, pollock oil, pea starch, natural duck flavor, duck cartilage, pumpkin, salt, mixed tocopherols (preservative), zinc proteinate, dried kelp, calcium pantothenate, vitamin A acetate, freeze dried duck liver, copper proteinate, chicory root, turmeric, dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried Bifidobacterium animalis fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus casei fermentation product

Zignature duck:
Duck, Duck Meal, Chickpeas, Pea Flour, Peas, Sunflower Oil (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Citric Acid), Flaxseed, Dehydrated Alfalfa Meal, Natural Flavors, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Choline Chloride, Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Cobalt Proteinate), Vitamins (Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin Supplement, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement), Blueberries, Carrots, Cranberries, Minerals (Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Calcium Carbonate, Copper Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Manganous Oxide, Calcium Iodate, Cobalt Carbonate).

Okay and Acana is sometimes too rich for some dogs so it's good to have options. And my bulldog only gets kibble in the am so he gets plenty of variety in his meals.

It's great that people can share their personal experiences and voice their opinions on forums and everyone is entitled to their own opinion and then whoever is looking for help can do their own research and make their own informed decision based on suggestions. Personally, I really don't need you commenting on any of my posts anymore. Thanks!

OK and don't make any further comments on mine either. I guess other readers won't get to read other opinions other than yours.

I didn't comment on YOUR thread nor did I quote YOUR comment. I was responding directly to the original poster and giving my personal experience. I do not comment directly to you except for when you comment directly towards me. Readers can read all comments and make their own informed decisions.

Good day!

Good day!

I just thought about it, and don't want to be part of a group where I'm told I can't comment on something someone wrote, even though I have done it in a polite manner. I don't think other viewers are going to get a full variety of opinions. So, enjoy your forum, and since you're a moderator, you can feel free to delete me.

Easy! This is out of hand... no leaving no deleting

All opinions matter.. we are here to provide support and alternative options

Thanks for the input guys. Iā€™ve tried Acana Classic Red and wild Coast, neither worked. On Zignature sheā€™s tried Turkey, Trout and Salmon, Zssential, Duck, Pork, Salmon, and Whitefish.

Catfish has the best results but still some itch at times and tear stains (minor). Something in the Acana seemed to trigger her unlike the Zignature

Fromm was worse than Acana.

I know you canā€™t do raw but what about freeze dried raw? You can also try the goat and/or kangaroo from Zignature as those are rare proteins. Itā€™s also possible that something other than the protein is causing issues, ie, a fruit or veggie or lentil, chickpeas, etc.

Availability is limited for freeze dried but itā€™s something I may look into. Itā€™s my understanding it is more expensive?

It is more expensive. Thereā€™s also the dehydrated raw as well. Thereā€™s home cooking but then you also have make sure itā€™s nutritionally balances with appropriate supplements.

Have you thought about full blood panel allergy test? It will run about 150-200 dollars.. it is a good base line to start from and less guessing.

Make sure your baby is off any immune suppression drugs for a full 30 before the blood is drawn

One more thing...are you giving a probiotic at all? As far as the tear stains, are you giving tap water or filtered water? Using stainless steel bowls?

I read these werenā€™t very accurate and it was more of a toss up .

No Probiotics separately. Will those help the tear stains? Can you recommend a few?

Filtered water in a stainless steel bowl that gets cleaned every day.

We were just talking about this on the sister site EBN. None of my vets will do blood tests because they do not think they are accurate enough. But I do know people that have done them. I don't think they 100% accurate but maybe they can provide a baseline and somewhere to start...I do know people that have done them and I probably would have done it if my vet said yes.

Probiotics can potentially help. They will definitely help her gut bacteria and immune system. I like to rotate between raw goat's milk and fermented fish stock. I know some people like to give sauerkraut (refrigerated, NOT canned). Green, unbleached tripe is good as well. They do also make dog specific powder ones as well. I used to use Bene-bac Plus until I went the more natural route.

Iā€™ve done them for three of my four babies and they have been a tremendous help in avoiding foods and treating environmental allergies
