Hi everyone so my Frenchie Patch has severe allergies and is very picky with food. He won’t eat raw or dehydrated so I need a dry food. Confused as to which brand is best and not sure about protein. Girl in pet store said duck and turkey is too much like chicken. Also my other Frenchie eats too fast. Would like them to be on the same food so Bentley doesn’t develop allergies. He’s 3 and patch is 9. Any feedback would really be appreciated.

The most confusing part of navigating food sensitivities to me, is figuring out the right protein to use. The woman who owns the pet food store I get my commercial raw from, said the opposite thing! She urged me to feed duck after Daphne seemed to have issues with chicken and she said it was the safest protein to try. If I go in when one of her male employees are there, he tells me to get Venison, as that is the safest. Daphne is eating lamb right now because the duck price skyrocketed and she is really really itchy. It is all confusing since I don't know if it is really the protein doing it and not something outside she is coming into contact with.

Sorry I don't have any advice for you - I'm in the same boat :-(

Thank you. My vet actually gave me royal canine duck flavor. But after reading posts from this site royal canine is not a good brand. Good luck to you as well.

I had some success with Wellness Core and Wellness Simple Limited. We managed allergies, but they still flared up from time to time. Good luck.

I'm surprised your dog wouldn't eat the frozen raw. Did you serve it room temperature? I dethaw mine for 24 hr at fridge temp then mix it with microwaved water to warm it up just before serving. Frozen raw is the best type for severe food allergies.

You could also try air dried ( OnlyNatural MaxMeat ) or freeze dried , but they are more expensive than dehydrated raw. My dog loved the taste of OnlyNatural EasyRaw dehydrated raw.

Some better quality limited ingredient dog kibbles that are low allergy that you can try- Zignature, Earthborne Holistic Venture line, Acana Singles line.

I would try one protein at a time, duck, buffalo, kangaroo, pork, rabbit should be good ones to try. Also possibly fish.

I know. He is very picky he smells whatever you give him then pushes the bowl around. My other dog will eat anything. Of course the picky one is the one with the allergies. I will give zingnature duck a try and see how he does. He’s also taking apoquel and Temaril so hopefully that helps too.

Yes... duck is the best shot and Zingnature would be a better option this case

My bulldog gets Zignature for his am meal. We usually rotate between the salmon, duck, pork, kangaroo and goat.
