Today, when I was at work, my parents were home with Rusty and when I came home, they told me Rusty had an episode during the day.

They said it’s definitely a seizure from what he was doing.

He was curled up on the couch with my mom(Rusty’s grandma we say), and he screamed and drooled, and was out of it, and he peed himself, and his eyes he looked out of it. That’s exactly what he did with me, but they didn’t see it happen when it was with me and they only heard the scream, this time, they seen and heard him, I didn’t but was told about it after work.
He was sleeping right before this happened, they didn’t get a chance to catch it on video, but it was 20 seconds at most then he went back to sleep on the couch beside my mom and later during the day was playing again.

We have no idea why the scream though☹️. He doesn’t seem to be in pain and is acting normal otherwise.

This is very sad because he has had so many health issues(allergies and the health issues he has had in the past that have been fixed thru diet).

But last time the day before he had an episode, he vomited 2 times the day before before dinner and breakfast, then yesterday he vomited 1 time before dinner(again I was working when this happened), and today he had an episode.
Strange how he vomited the day before each episode, I am not sure if this is just a coincidence but next time he vomits, the next day we will watch him like a hawk again like always.

This is just very strange to me.

And he has NOT had lions mane since(we discontinued it when he had the first episode cause we weren’t sure).

I will call our regular vet tomorrow morning and they will send a referral to neurologist(the vet told me last time they will do that if he has another episode).

Hopefully it’s nothing serious going on, I was hoping he wouldn’t have another episode.

We still can’t necessarily rule out back issue until we know what’s going on, the scream seems unusual though of why he would scream while having a seizure. But my parents know for sure this was a seizure today.

He is still getting the CBD oil, which is really good for pain, inflammation and seizures in dogs.

Other than CBD oil, any recommendations/advice???

Any responses/advice are greatly appreciated!

I'm so sorry that Rusty had another seizure. I've only experienced them once with our dogs and they are very scary. I hope there is medication he can take to control the frequency of the episodes. Hopefully, he doesn't have IVDD. Good luck as you explore your options and a go forward plan.

With the the drooling and peeing, that sounds more like a seizure than IVDD.
Yes it definitely was a seizure, but they said they can’t rule out IVDD for the sore back a couple weeks ago without the MRI.

We have an appointment on Monday July 18 with a vet neurologist. Then they will decide when to do MRI and/or CT scan.

The scream he does during an episode is scary, not the Frenchie scream, out of fear or pain is what it sound like☹️

I currently have him on CBD oil, anything else you recommend???
Any other advice??

Thanks for your response to my thread, I really appreciate it!

The scream he makes is the most scary!

So the vet neurologist place just called us, he has an appointment on Monday July 18, they said at the appointment they will decide when they will want to do the MRI and /CT scan.

if they did the MRI that will hopefully tell us if his back is ok or not.
And also hopefully we will know why he is having these episodes.

The lady that called us asked us to describe what he did, she said that sounds like very strange episodes, I will try to record it on my phone if he has one.

I really do not want to put him on any medications as I have been reading those cause Kidney and Liver damage and disease as a result of the medications, and they don’t guarantee no seizures and makes them more relying on the meds.

Thank you!

Thank you very much for responding, I really appreciate it.

How do we use that?? Where do we get it??

I have never heard of it.

Any other recommendations other than CBD oil?

I’m still unsure why the scream though, the lady that called us said it sounds strange too.

Also what CBD oil do you use for Jax??
What is the strength and the amount?

I ask because the ones we can get here are 1050mg strength or 650mg which I have read 125 mg is recommended for dogs under 25 pounds but I am currently giving him 1/4 of a ml.

Some sites say more strength and some say less, and strength depends on pain and if they have seizures which requires more strength(I have been looking everything up and I’m not sure still what the best one to use is).

Frankincense is an essential oil that you can get online. Doterra is a good brand. If you Google Frankincense on dogs with seizures, you’ll find a bunch of articles.

I get my cbd oil locally from a friend of a friend that makes it so it’s cheaper and stronger than what I can get from a store. I give him a dropper full with each meal.

Do you know the brand?

What is the strength?? 1050 mg????

How many pounds does Jax weigh? I ask out if curious as how close he is to Rusty weight and if I should just give the current CBD oil amount if the strength is similar to what your giving.

Is usually tells you in mg the strength.

@Cbrugs
I’m currently using Pawtanical brand in Canada, I was looking at lots of reviews with seizures on Four Leaf Rover brand which I buy some of their products already but you can’t get it in Canada because they don’t ship it across the border.

I can’t believe the specialist neurologist cost is $300 for the appointment just to see him, I just seen that, I was shocked for how expensive it is. Apparently they see a lot of frenchies and are good with the breed. That’s a bit if a relief.

The bottle says 425 mg and 8 mg per ml. There is no brand because it’s homemade. I’ve tried a few different brands and was paying like $100 for 1 Oz. I now pay $40 for 2 Oz but it’s actually better than what is found in stores. And she makes different formulas, she has like 5 different CBD dominant strains. It’s not dog specific.

Jax is probably about 27-28 pounds.

The pawtanical products is very hard to find now and I’m trying to find a similar alternative incase I can’t get it.

Does the product you buy ship to Canada?
I know you said it’s homemade but curious if we can get it shipped to Canada.

That’s around the mg strength per ml he needs according to some articles.

Is it full spectrum CBD oil less than 0.3% THC?? What is the base, MCT oil or Hemp seed oil??

Im paying $60 for 30 ml of 1050 mg stregnth which is 35 mg per 1 ML. The cost isn’t really my concern, the concern is him getting the correct amount(not higher strength or less strength than what he needs).

Mine does not ship to Canada. It has more THC than what you find in stores. You can try Treatibles brand or Wisely from All the Best Pet Care. They ship but I don’t know if they ship to Canada.

Do they have to put him out to do an MRI? Is that also a diagnostic for seizures? How can they tell if a dog has a seizure disorder other than them having seizures? Curious about that.

Good luck. It's great that you have such good resources around you. I live in a large, progressive city, but I don't know if we have a pet neurologist and I can't seem to find a vet practice that treats a lot of frenchies (in spit of there being a gazillion vets here).

Yes to do a CT scan and MRI they have to be under anesthesia for it, which I don’t really want to do but I will if it helps guide us.

I’m actually not sure either, the MRI and CT scan will show What’s going on in his brain and if it’s normal or not. And if the MRI is done I hope they do his back too to check to see if it’s IVDD or not too.

I think it might also check for a brain tumour, I’m not 100% sure though and am also wondering the same thing you are curious about.

I know if they find nothing wrong with his back, and nothing serious with the tests it would be ‘ idiopathic epilepsy’ or idiopathic seizures.

Thank you!

I can’t believe the $$ they charge though just for a visit with the specialist is $300, I’m scared to see the estimate at the appointment for the cost of the MRI/CT scan, especially since they are 24hr emergency clinic with a bunch of different specialtists like the neurologist.

The cost isn’t a big concern for me, I worry about his health. But if it helps us figure out what is wrong with him and to help get a plan of what we are for sure dealing with and what we are not(I hope they rule out IVDD ).

I am honestly so worried, he is like my baby(ok some people might think I’m crazy but you know what I mean) he is my best friend, and to see and know this is scary!

What concerns me the most other than the actual seizure is why would he scream??

So strange!

Thanks again for the response!

Rusty had a allergy immunotherapy injection today(not chemicals from the vet, extracts of what he is allergic to in environmental), the neighbor who is a vet gives it.

She gave him the injection this morning and this is the vet that said it’s IVDD, so she asked how he is doing and asked if anymore episodes, I said yes on Sunday he did and told her exactly what he did, I said my regular vet said he is not in back pain, she said they weren’t putting any pressure to see, and I will check him, she showed me right in front of me, the same spot is sore, yes he is in back pain, and he was also hunched over today☹️

She said since we know it’s a seizure for sure he had, he still is in back pain! And that is why he screams when he has a seizure episode.
But she said during a seizure there is NO screaming, so he would be screaming from his back while having a seizure.

I guess we will see what the neurologist says, I hope its not both seizures and IVDD!

I am so sorry; you got hit with a double whammy with both conditions. I hope both can be rectified with time and treatment. Hugs.

I really hope it’s just seizures and not a back issue.

I guess we will see what the neurologist has to say and what is the next step.

Hopefully something not as serious as IVDD and it’s not both seizures and his back.
Makes me worry even more, 1 vet says back and my vet says seizures and we went the seizures and the scream, don’t know what to think, especially that the other vet says it could be both☹️
