Hi all!

Sansa Stark is an 8 month old pup who has been on Natures Domain Salmon and Sweet potato (grain free kibble). Her breeder fed it to her before we got her and so we continued feeding it to her as she was just fine on it. I added in Blue Basics limited ingredient grain free formula (salmon and potato) and Salmon oil. About a week ago she started rubbing her face on the ground (i clean regularly) and licking/gnawing her paws. I am unsure of what to do with her food, and dog food advisor will literally take me ages to go through. I have read not so good things about Royal Canin so I know I won't be switching to that. Is there a difference in how her body breaks down potato vs sweet potato? Is that where I messed up? I would prefer to keep her on a kibble and wet combo. Any opinions/ideas/info is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Potatoes are starch which can cause yeast issues. I would try to avoid any kind of potato if you can. Zignature is a brand that doesn’t have potatoes. Fromm Pork & Peas is another one. I am sure there are others as well. You can also try The Honest Kitchen which is a dehydrated raw, you just add warm water to it.

I read an interesting article about grain free food, and it is making me wonder which food to feed also. We all want to do the right thing with our babies and feed them he best food possible. Potato and sweet potato are known to cause allergies along with chicken. Too many carbohydrates are in the foods these days. Raw is best if you know how to make a good well balanced diet, but it can be expensive and a lot of work. Freeze dries is a good choice also. I hope this article will help some.

We have had food allergy issues with our English Bulldogs and found that sweet potatoes are okay, but other potatoes are not. We feed NVI Ltd Ingred. turkey.

i would try a dehydrated raw with sweet potato, eg. Only Natural EasyRaw, Honest Kitchen , preferably with a protein other than chicken.

Agree with the gang... remove the white potato and avoid chicken. keep in mind how kibble is processed can be a factor so you might end up on a raw/dehydrated food
