Hi, I have read some other post regarding this same subject. I have a female frenchie 11 years old and very healthy. She is great and going strong, takes more naps during the day than she did when she was young, but still drags me through the neighborhood every day when we do our 30 minute walk.

She is wonderful and a blessing in my life. She is definitely in charge (Alpha) and is ok around most other dogs, until you show affection towards another dog, or pick it up (she gets jealous). The exception is when she stays at my sisters where they have a large mixed breed male. They get along great, no issues and are best pals. - But they have spent a lot of time together.

Over the years I have considered getting another frenchie and probably should have done it sooner. I recently started considering it again thinking that it would be nice for her to have a playmate and might keep her youthful longer.

I found an excellent breeder and have been waiting for several months for a puppy. He has 2 gorgeous males, one brindle and one solid black (very little brindle).

The puppies are 10 weeks old now and ready to come home (one of them), but now I'm feeling anxious and second guessing my decision. I am concerned that my current female might not be happy with the change in routine - which would be a huge change for her. It's just her and I in the house and it is very peaceful (sometimes she might be bored), but lays / sleeps when we aren't playing.

What do you guys think?

She may be a little jealous of a new baby initially, but I'm sure she will adjust and teach it all she knows! My two get a little jealous but it is never a big problem. I would just make sure to give your existing dog breaks from the puppy as they can be annoying to an older dog. I personally like the idea of a male and female also. Good luck to you. We would love to see pics. too if you decide to move forward.

I would go for it ! If its something you want then for sure. She will adjust. Just like anything, it will take time. I would get an x-pen for the puppy so you can separate them and having an x-pen is also good for training and everything else!

Welcome to the forum as well :)

You can never have too many Frenchies! I agree, your older girl will be jealous but she will probably learn to love having the company. Wally my Frenchie can be a jerk with other dogs because he's so crazy but he is different with puppies.

I am biased because we just added a second frenchie to the family and I LOVE HERRRRRRRRRR and can't imagine not having her . Plus they have eachother now which is so nice

For sure go for it! It may take a few days for your adult gal to accept a baby, but I bet she'll take on the role of Mom. As mentioned, make sure your Mia gets breaks from the puppy and that she gets her share of attention!

Congratulations and :smileywelcome:

Thanks for the replies and advise.. I am driving up this Thursday to pick him up. He looks adorable in the pictures I've seen, I have a choice between 2 brindle boys, both are amazing looking with great blood lines. One of them is all black, which is kinda unusual and looks really handsome. They are getting a wellness check this week before I get there, but I dont expect any issues. I'll send pics when I can. :)

She is precious! Congrats!

We would get another frenchie in a skinny second if we could. Our town only allows two dogs but moreso, Ginger, our dobie mix, can be persnickety with other dogs. Once you get your new baby, you'll never look back.

**An Update - The day I was to pick up my boy, the breeder notified me that the vet who performed a wellness check detected a heart murmur. She said it was a grade 4 on a scale of 1-6. She wouldn't commit to wether it was an "Innocent" or "Physiologic" heart murmur and recommended a re-check in 4 weeks to see if it had improved or worsened. I never saw the puppy, instead returned home, sad for the little guy. A few days later the breeder took the puppy to a different vet for a second opinion. The second vet said that he heard a minor, or "Innocent" murmur that was difficult to detect and also recommended a recheck in 4 weeks.

I have been doing some reading and it seems fairly common for puppies to have a grade 1-2 heart murmur, but they outgrow the condition after about 4 months and its not a big deal. I think the only way to know for sure is to have an echocardiogram done. I am going to see when my breeder can have this done, or maybe wait for 4 weeks for a re-check. I just hate to wait, but whatever is best for him I guess.

It can be common and most tend to out grow them.... sending prayers that is the case for your little one

I hope he will grow out of it and it won't become anything serious. Please keep us updated.

The breeder still has him and I haven't committed to adopting him. I want to make sure he is healthy before I get too attached, (I haven't seen him in person yet). I hope he is ok..

We found out at a wellness check-up right after we adopted Bambi that she had a heart murmur; I don't know how severe or that they could grade them. She is four (we got her at three) and it hasn't seemed to be a problem. I don't know what the long term ramifications are but we will deal with whatever may come. Good luck with your decision.
