Our baby Clancy was neutered today. He will be 11 months old next week. It has been hard on him in his short life. We found out that he had elevated liver enzymes when he was 6 months old. Since that time he has had blood drawn every 14 days to see what his levels are, plus he has been on antibiotics during this whole time. He's gone from being a very good guy with his bowels to a complete mess. I have tried pumpkin in his food (he's on Fromm Puppy) and he hates the pumpkin. I also had him on the Forti Flora. I wanted to transition him next month off the puppy food but now I'm afraid to.

He's doing well tonight from the surgery...sleeping as he's still a little drugged. He won't eat or drink today but I kind of expected that as his older brother did the same thing when he was neutered. Any suggestions on his food to help firm him up since pumpkin is out? Luckily enough his liver enzymes are doing good as he will continue with Denamarin until they are completely normal. Right now he's at the high end of normal. We also had an ultrasound and everything looked great.

These little guys can worry you sooo much but they are sooo worth it!

Poor baby. He has been through so much. I'm glad that his surgery went well. As far as his stools, maybe the food just doesn't agree with him?

Like mentioned above I think it could actually just be the food... I'd go ahead and transition and see if that helps.

If he hates pumpkin you could try goats milk? A lot of pet stores sell it and it comes in powder OR liquid.

Forti Flora doesn't help very much in my experience, but it's nice to have some on hand. I use a type of probiotics with pepto in it, not sure of the name but it comes in a tube.

Glad his surgery went well and I'm glad he is finally recovering!

Wishing a quick recovery for Clancy!
It sure is one of the worst feelings ever when the little ones are not feeling well.

Tgirl, blushy, Chiana. Thanks so much for the kind wishes and info on his bathroom problem. Does the goats milk help with firming up the stool and with the diahrrea? He's doesn't take any probiotic and I had stopped the Forti flora as it didn't help. He is on the NuVet supplement. We have been up since 3:30 am as he kept gagging and throwing up the white foamy stuff as he didn't eat much of anything yesterday and I think the Meds affected him that the surgery center gave him. Around noon time is when he started eating and feeling much better.

Glad Clancy is doing well after his surgery. You are right; these babies can be a terrible worry. We were having trouble with allergies, etc., and someone here suggested Orijen. I have been extremely happy with it (Salmon). It's not unusually large, but my husband crushes the pieces and mixes them with just a little canned food. We have tried a probiotic for several days but it gave her soft serve poops even in the smallest amount (?). I know it is good for them, but it has been hard to introduce. Good luck with your sweetie.

Yes the goats milk is an alternative to pumpkin. :)

Poor sweetie pie throwing up! I'm sure it was a mix of the surgery and stress of surgery and meds!

Oh thanks all of you for understanding....he seems to be doing better today...thank goodness. He's not taking any of the Meds now and I put a little white rice in with his kibble and am feeding very small amounts 3 times a day instead of his normal twice a day. That seems to have helped settle his stomach a little. I am so glad his neuter is over with. We didn't have any of these problems with other other Frenchie, Wyatt. I guess each one is different.

Awww poor baby. I'm glad he is doing better and I was going to suggest a little white rice. Stella won't eat pumpkin either so I give her a little white rice which helps her a ton.

Have you tried canned sweet potatoes? Is he doing better?

bullymama. Clancy is doing much better. He did puke up his whole breakfast yesterday morning....not sure why as he's not on pain Meds. Today he's doing really well. I did add some white rice to his Fromm kibble and no loose stools. This morning he refused his Denamarin pill so need to figure out how to get him back on that. I tried a little sliver of roast beef, peanut butter and cream cheese. He's too smart for us, lol.

hannah. I have never tried sweet potatoes. So does that help firm up the stools like the pumpkin does. He is doing much better but I added the rice to his Fromm kibble and that helped. He's our little pistol right now as you would never know he has stitches and a portion of his sac is inflamed. Keeping him calm is the problem as he wants to wrestle and play with his brother. Thanks so much for asking.

I'm glad he's feeling better! With my BT Uma I have to give her a pill like I did when I had a cat. Sit her in between my legs with her back to me, tilt the head and shove the pill down and then hold her mouth closed so she will swallow. Sometimes it takes me a few tries. She's crafty and will spit it out if I don't push the pill down far enough. Good luck with Clancy!

Isabelle drools & foams at the mouth ! Even the vets can't get her to swallow them!

Glad to hear Clancy is doing better. Maximus is usually good about pills hidden in yummy food except Denamarin for medium dogs. Those pills are huge! I ended up having to do the same - put it in his mouth, close and tilt his head back while gently rubbing his throat until he swallows. Sigh
