Hi.

Wanting to know how I would tell a digestion issue with my frenchie, he is about 7 months old, he eats the same as my 12monyh old frenchie which is a home cooked diet. Carlos the (7) he poops so many times a day it is crazy, and it is really smelly and I can usually see undigestied food in the stool.

Could this just be an issue with the food he is eating? My other frenchie cosmo (12) only goes about 2-3 times a day and they are normal.

I'm wondering if Carlos can't digest the food I'm feeding him and that's why he poops so much. If anyone has a solution to this please let me know I'm desperate he poops everywhere when locked up at night also.
Also some food recipes I could try for him would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you :)

What are you feeding exactly?
Has he been tested for parasites?

also, could it be it is too much food.... maybe cut back a little

Yes has been tested for parasites all that we done when we first got him and he is all clear.
His farts and poop smells so much though,

He gets fed; ground turkey or beef with vegetables and brown rice (at night)
And eukanuba kibble (morning)

Yes I have cut back the amount, I might cut back even more and see if it helps, I don't want to starve him though. Haha

It could be the kibble... Eukanuba, here in the states, Is not that great of a food - lots of filler

Oh really I wasn't sure about it, got it because my other frenchie has allergies but this kibble was actually helping him and he has no reaction. Can you recommend any kibble that would be appropriate? And how do I go about transition?

My dogs do well on Nature's Variety Instinct Limited Ingredient. They have a variety including vegan, kangaroo, lamb, turkey, etc. Do the transition slowly over a week to 10 days. For example, days 1-3 use 1/4 new kibble mixed with 3/4 old kibble, them progress to half & half, then 3/4 & 1/4. A gradual transition is the key to success.

Great thank you! I will see if that is avaiable here, otherwise I was looking at the origin brand kibble? And thanks for the transition tip. ☺️

Dogfoodadvisor.com is a great website that has a list of pretty much every food out there and what their ratings are.

Also make sure you are lightly cooking any veggies you give as it is easier to digest. Also you can add a little white rice which may help. Some great advice from the others and dog food advisor is a great resource where you can basically search for 5 star foods. The only other thing I was thinking is that perhaps your pup has a food intolerance to something you are feeding. But if you are changing kibble, maybe that will help. Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi again,
So I have started both my boys on a kibble transition, switching from eukanuba to Origen
It has been 3 days of the transition. And one of them had very slimy poop today and the other runny pop yesterday. Could this just be caused from the transition in kibble or something else?

Probably the transition.

Beef is probably too harsh on your pups belly.
If you still want to feed home cooked I would switch to chicken for the younger pup and see how he does...

We had to switch to chicken based kibble because every other protein was too rich for our puppy (as per vet orders).

Good luck!

Orijen is a good food but check the protein %. Jax does not do well on on protein over 30%. It may be too rich for them.

The protein is 38%, should I continue the transition and see how it goes or just stop it and get something less in protein?

It is my personal opinion that 38% protein is too high for a Frenchie but there are some that might do just fine on it. You can continue with the transition to see if they get better or you can try a different food with less protein and see how they do on a lower one.

Okay thank you, I think I will continue with the transition and see how we go, if no better after a week back to the drawing board.

Thank you
