Hi all,

Our 18 month old fawn Frenchie Stinx (I'm sure you all understand the name!) has been developing dark skin on her belly for the past six months.

It's began after she was spayed in January but seems to be getting darker. It appears to cause her no discomfort or bother and she's just as spritely and puppy-like as she's always been. We feed her a dry food sensitive grade Purina Pro Plan diet with the occasional dog-specific treats.

I just wanted to check that this is normal or something we should be concerned about, has it happened to anyone else?

Thanks so much for your response. I've attached some pictures below. It seems to have progressed to under her front legs too. Nope no scratching or discomfort of any kind. She's had all of her jabs and vaccinations and has her Advocate every monthbelly2.webpbelly1.webp

Wally's belly went from completely white at a wee pup to spots/freckles of black so I think she's just getting older and her colour is changing.

That's really good to hear, thank you. I googled it and all sorts of scary things came back!!

agree -- this looks normal to me.... nothing that would be of concern, but I tagged a couple members to give any additional insight

It looks normal to me as well. Jax is a fawn and we got him as a puppy his belly and butt area were whiter and now they are discolored as well.

It looks normal to me, but next time you are at the vet bring it up just in case. My Molly has darker skin in that same area, but she is also a senior. I planned on showing it to my vet next time.

Pigment spots are normal, like this on a belly (some start as early as a few weeks old).

see pup on the right with pigment spots.

It looks like my Jake's belly and he is fawn also. Looks just like the pigment is changing color which is normal as they grow. I would look into a better quality kibble to feed your pup though to avoid probloems down the road. You can check out Dog Food Reviews and Ratings | Dog Food Advisor for reviews on foods.

Yep, looks normal to me. Some will change pigment color as they grow older.

My Ollie is a Blue Fawn and he has some spots of darker skin on his belly and chest. I looked at your pics they all look normal to me. I would not worry.
