Dog Friendly Places

I can see why everyone would have to stop and talk to Q at the home improvement store! So cute. Also, cat shelves sound interesting. I would love to see those when you are done.

How cute she is helping you shop. It's so great that they really just want to be with you...no matter what you're doing. Mine get excited to take the trash out with me!

Awwww reading all the cool places everyone takes their Frenchie makes me even more excited to take little Twiggy with me everywhere that I can! I seriously can't wait. I'm about to burst just thinking about it.

I've taken Bentley into just about every type of store (and a couple restaurants) and never had been asked to leave, but I try to not overstep my boundaries.
Stores, most wouldn't care and actually comment on the dog. Restaurants. Well... You have to look into it prior. But if there is outdoor seating it's usually ok. And if there isn't you just have to look at local rules or ask before you sit down.

Nurseries also allow dogs to come in (for the most part). The outside areas are usually fine, and some allow you to bring yours inside.

I just take them... If I'm asked to leave then so be it.

I try to be respectful and most of the time when I've taken Titan with me he was in a carrier, but if he started barking and causing a ruckus I would carry him. I wasn't even asked to leave giant eagle... He was sick and I couldn't leave him at home alone... I still needed to eat!

If a lady can dress her dog in a head wrap and wear a matching one and carry it like a baby around Walmart I can certainly take mine! [emoji6]

Took Bentley on a bunch of adventures today. The natural pet food store, Home Depot, Winn Dixie, etc.
he also had his first Puppicino at Starbucks today. (We don't care for Starbucks, just brought him for the puppicino. Haha)

Sounds like a fun day! What is a puppicino? I don't usually do Starbucks either, but I'd be willing if they had something yummy for dogs.

It's just a cup of whip cream. Not something I'd give on a regular or even semi-regular basis. But I figured it was time for him to enjoy a new treat.

So apparently Lowes is NO LONGER dog friendly! I walked in today with my Staffordshire Bull Terrier who I am currently training for therapy work and was told by an employee that the manager was on the way to escort me out of the store because they no longer allow dogs in the store. She said they had a customer complain that she was allergic to dogs which was why lowes made the choice to not allow dogs in their stores. I'm pretty sad, I've never had an issue taking Hotchkiss to the store but it looks like I will be doing my shopping at Home Depot now. It's so hard to socialize a dog when all of these stores are not allowing dogs anymore. /sigh

There was another couple walking in with a small mixed breed puppy while I was there and they wouldn't even let them in the door. I guess they didn't see my dog because she was walking right next to me and I was pushing one of those giant car shopping carts or else they would have stopped me at the door. I just got her back from the trainer and I really need to keep up on her training and work on socializing in new and different places. Why must it be so hard to find dog friendly stores?!

Ridiculous... One person complains they're allergic to dogs, change complete store policy? Seems like they would lose more customers who liked to bring their dog along, right?

Actually therapy dogs are not the same as service dogs so they are not protected under the law. When Hotchkiss became a therapy dog part of the papers I signed said as much and that I was only to bring him to approved facilities with his vest and tags on. If I took him anywhere else I while wearing his vest and tags I run the risk of being kicked out of his therapy dog program. I think it creates an extra liability for the therapy programs insurance. The lowes store obviously didn't know the difference because when I said I brought my other dog in all the time who is a therapy dog they told me he was allowed because he is a therapy dog. They don't know that because I don't bring him in with his collars and tags. I worked too hard to get him in as a therapy dog and as much as I like brining him with me to shop I'm not going to chance screwing that up by taking him places in his therapy vest that I'm not supposed to.

Really? Because I've seen therapy dogs in malls, and I know most do not accept animals, but they were allowed to stay?

I didn't know that!

FYI per home depot's headquarters they do not allow pets in store either. Only service animals protected by law. I emailed their corporate to find out and that was the response I got.

Yep my SIL works there. Bummer none of these places allow dogs anymore.

Our favorite doggie friendly place is Lazy Dog Restaurant. But mine have been to Petco, Petsmart, Home Depot, Chase Bank, Subway, my work offices, the outdoor mall to name a few.

I took Twiggy to Michael's today, and Petco. I called Michael's first just to be sure it was okay and they said as long as she didn't bother anyone, it was fine.
