First Heat Cycle

So this morning after Maple woke up and used the washroom she jumped on my lab for her morning cuddles and then I noticed blood on my leg. First I thought she was maybe bleeding somewhere from the cat biting or scratching her a little to hard. But then I seen a little bit of blood drip from Maples private part on the floor. Its her very first heat! I put towels on the couch and will get her some doggy diapers later on. I noticed twice now that she walked away ,sat down and looked all sad Is this her hormones going crazy maybe? She doesnt look like she is in pain.

How was your dogs first heat? Is it different from any other heat? Is there anything special I gotta keep an eye on? Other than keeping her away from male dogs for the next few weeks of course

Nothing special to do, just don't let her out of your site for a second for the next month. Yes her hormones are going crazy right now, and she may act like she doesn't feel well sometimes. Let the fun begin.

She is a little sleepy today but I am making sure the cat doesnt bother you too much today. Poor girl. But she doesnt look like its hurting so Im glad about this. And I told her she is lucky this only happens twice a year and not every single month.

Now Ive heard different opinions on that but [MENTION=4]davidh[/MENTION] do you help keep it clean down there? Im assuming it depends on wether the dog is able to clean itself or not. Maple can and does clean herself but Im just wondering if I should use some puppy whipes or something to make sure. I dont want nothing to get infected or anything..Im probably just being paranoid again lol
