I've had a number of people make comments about Twiggy's adorable sounds. One lady I work with that loves Twiggy said "I could never had a Frenchie though because all those noises they make get under my skin". A friend of the family stays with us some (he is like family) and he says he doesn't see how I can stand that snoring. I have had a good many comments about how her sounds irritate or get on people's nerves. They aren't being mean, just honest. The thing is, it doesn't bother me in the least. I don't really even notice it. I never have. If my husband snores though, I'm waking him up to turn over!

I have also had several people ask me if she was growling while she was just breathing a little heavy from being excited. :fie:

What kind of people are these!!!!

That's what I'm sayin'!

I have also had people say they just don't think they are cute at all. I just can't even comprehend that. I'm glad Twiggy is a good dog because with that adorable face, she could get away with pretty much anything.

I have had people ask if Gus was growling when he does that excited breathing, so I now mention that when he's meeting new people/dogs. Frenchies can sometimes be hard to "read" for people not used to the breed. Sometimes, their tenancy toward RBF and the lack of any real tail throws people off. So, any "weird" sounds can make them more wary.

We had another brachiocephalic breed, so we are used to the comments about snorting and snoring. Nobody has ever said anything negative - mainly just laugh.

Gus' bark, even if he's worked up, is so quiet. It's one of my favorite things about him. From what I've seen in the internet, though, some Frenchies can be really loud and do this yodel/scream thing, which I wouldn't like at all. I'm hoping our next one is quiet, as well.

I suppose adult Frenchie's can be kinda ugly/cute, at times, but I think that's part of the appeal. My kids call Gus ugly, sometimes, but it's said with love and a chuckle. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. There are plenty of breeds that I find straight up ugly, but I certainly wouldn't tell the owner. However, one of my friends used to have a dog that we doggy-sat for a week I've time, and I got a kick out of doing a Shug Avery (Color Purple) impression to - "You suuuure is ugly!!!" Dog was a sweetheart and a good example of her breed, but just ugly to me.

That being said, I love the little snorts and snores and tell Gus he's handsome every single day. Face only a mother could love? Idk. Lol

I love all their snorts and snores. My boyfriend snores way worse and that I can’t deal with.

Hmmmm....guess I'd be considered lucky by some then because mine is rather quiet. She DOES bark though ( she didn't until my Boxer showed her what's what). Does not snore and does not do that yodel thing that I've also seen on Youtube. Being an owner of Boxers, a Pug, and now a Frenchie, it's clear I'm partial to smush faces, which I happen to think are all adorably cute!

I love it all.... Cheli’s snore os my lullaby. Like most if the b/f snores I’m nudging him to roll over— cant deal with it

Buster doesn't snore much, but old man Ruggles can sound like a chain saw. He started snoring so loudly a couple of years ago!

I'm the one who snores in our marriage--I have an elongated palate, wouldn't you know!!!

It's the old proverb, "Different strokes for different folks".
We can't all like the same things/dogs.
Even so, my reaction to those that don't like frenchies is: of all the noive!! :D
The charm of our little clowns is made up of:
Their endearing faces and expressions.
Their clownish hilarious movements.
Their amazing personalities.
Their sometimes overwhelming love and affection.
Their snorts, snores, flatulence (sometimes powerful enough to knock a person down).
I'm sure I left something out.

If all the above don't get to you, I don't know what will.

She's still young...give her time!!

Twiggy doesn't snore all the time just a little here and there. I don't really even usually notice it until someone else says something. We had friends over watching a movie once and she was in my lap snoring. My friend said "how do you deal with that???? OMG that's driving me crazy!" I hadn't even noticed. I think people are being dramatic. It wasn't THAT loud. Plus..look at her face!

I can't believe people say these things?! Snoring = small price to pay for unconditional smushy love.

Yeah, I don't get it. I love everything about them - especially their noises, their faces, their pudgy, perfect little bodies. When we heard Bambi's bark/cry for the first time and discovered she wasn't dying, we thought it was the cutest thing. Even her farts are funny, they are so bad. I've had lots of people think that Bambi is growling when they go to pet her. (She is the most docile, gentle, friendly dog - not aggressive in ANY way.) How anyone can interpret that as threatening, I'll never know. What the hell (excuse me) are people thinking!?

We call it "purring".

I've grown up with Boston Terriers, Boxers and Pugs all of my life so the sounds never really bothered me. I was more concerned about my boyfriend, as he never owned a dog before. He didn't mind the noises either! People who make those comments aren't squishy faced dog lovers lol :)
