Are there any forum users that feed their frenchie dehydrated raw (as opposed to normal Raw)?
I find Carrots poos are really hard on the dehydrated raw food. Like rocks. I add extra water to her food since she has ZERO interest in drinking since being in this new food. I'm not super concerned because I add almost a cup of water to her food to rehydrate it. So she's technically "drinking" two cups a day.
I am worried about the poos though. I'm trying to give her more food per the "poo rule" but is this rule always accurate?

That really surprises me. I was adding a little bit of kibble to mine for the longest times, to keep Gus' stools a little firmer. How long have you been doing the dehydrated? I wonder if it's just the transition. Gus still drinks water, but not much. Maybe you can get a little more water in her by giving her an ice cube to lick or some broth?

Do you give a probiotic? What brand dehydrated raw are you feeding? What is the fiber amount?

My bulldog gets kibble in the morning and The Honest Kitchen at night which is dehydrated and I haven't had any issues.

Hi! I'm new here. I want to start my frenchie puppy on a raw food diet. I've been reading around and it suggests the puppy should consume 10% of it's weight. Is this 10% per meal, or 10% per day?

I guess I'm wondering if the water issue is to blame for the hard poos or maybe she's not getting enough? She's eaten this food before but we recently switched back to this brand and she's been eating it for the last month

She eats Small Batch. It's a small, family run company. I do NOT currently give her a probiotic.

I've attached a photo of the breakdown of the food analysis....

Hmmmm...that's a very low fiber content. You can try adding in some pure canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) or what I have been doing is adding in a pinch of unsweetened coconut chips to each meal. They have some specifically for dogs but I use these which are much cheaper and essentially the same thing - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TUGZHAS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1.

Maybe also try a probiotic. There are many different options like kefir, raw goat's milk, sauerkraut that is in the refrigerated section (not in the can), or a powdered form. I use Bene-bac Plus which is a pre and probiotic.

I'm using EasyRaw and it has 7.3% fibre, so that's a huge difference.

Green tripe is another good probiotic choice as well.

Carrot loves pumpkin, so I will definitely add that back in. Didn't realize the fiber was so low until I sent that photo

Do you find your frenchie drinks any water at all since being on the dehydrated raw?

No, she doesn't drink water anymore unless she has been chewing on her lacrosse ball toy, and pouncing on it, and then she sometimes has a sip.

I give my boys fresh, raw vegetables and fruit like cuke, red & yellow pepper, peas in the pod, apple, berries, etc. They are both very regular and do nice tootsie-roll logs!

What brand or type of pumpkin do you use?

Libby’s is a common one that is probably available everywhere. You can use any brand, just make sure it says 100% pure pumpkin and NOT pie filling.

usually hard poop is one sign of dehydration.

So, for the past few days I've been adding two heaping teaspoons of quinoa and a heaping teaspoon of pumpkin to her meals. Both for fiber and because I'm trying to put some weight on Carrot. And of course, her poos have gone the opposite way! So, I've removed the quinoa and I'm just adding pumpkin. We'll see how it goes.

You might have to play around with amounts to see what works. I’ve been through a ton of trials and errors.

Thanks to all for the advice! I've been giving Carrot a heaping teaspoon of pumpkin with every meal which has really helped. Her poo's have been great. And of course she loves the 🎃
