Hi all, looking for some advice if possible. My male Frenchie Buddy has just turned 6 months old today 🎉 We noticed recently he had a ‘lump’ in his groin area, after taking him to the vets to get it checked out, the vet informed us the lump was actually a retained testicle and advised it (and his other testicle which has moved down to its rightful place) would need to be removed. Can anybody offer any advice as to wether we should rush into this operation straight away, or give it another 2/3 months to see if it will move into the scrotum by itself? Or is there another way this movement can be helped along the way? I would prefer to exhaust all options before deciding to have the operation, as I believe a dog should be left intact unless health is at risk. Buddy’s temperament is absolutely perfect so I wouldn’t want this to change by having the operation (maybe a misguided view), unless his health was at risk.

Yes, it is not uncommon for this to happen. I think the longer you wait the further it and retain and be more difficult to remove. You can get a second option, but they will have to be removed.

We had an English Bulldog once that it took 10 months for his second testicle to drop. So I would give it a couple more months to see if it will drop on it's own.

Yuki's second testicle dropped on it's own when he was 8 months.
