Hello! I am a brand new Frenchie Mom. We have also an American bulldog who is 6 years old. Effie is now 11weeks old and has had hives/rash on her back and neck. We did take her to the vet and she prescribed a medicated shampoo to wash her once a day with and we're not really noticing a difference. We also switched her food from blue buffalo "freedom" to the bb "basics" thinking it might be a food allergy. I'm concerned and would love any input from anyone who hAs experienced this or know what it could be. Thanks!

Re: Hives?

Could it be an allergic reaction to something outside (grass, trees, etc). Could even be a reaction to something indoors.

Re: Hives?

Definitely an allergic reaction to something. I would try a different brand of food altogether and try to get something grain free and that has a different protein, preferable without chicken, as it is a known allergy to some bullies. When he has a flair up, you can give Benedryl, 1 mg per pound of body weight, and if the hives are bad, then you can double the dose for a day or two until they go down. Finding the substance that is causing it is always the challenge.

agreed ^^^

I agree with David. Poor little one. Please keep us updated on her condition.

The same thing happened to us around this age with Isabell. I worried myself sick thinking is this the start of skin issues. I had just washed all of her bedding and towels with Gain. I went out and got arm and hammer free and clear and never had that issue again. I was so happy that it was something that simple for us. The hives healed on there own. I just made sure to wipe her down daily with a damp washcloth until they were healed. They looked almost scaby towards the end. I am always diligent about washing her stuff with her detergent. Baby Dreft is a good option too. Hope this helps !

I agree with the above comments and suggestions. It will be a process of elimination.

Good luck!

:smileywelcome: to you, Rigby, and Effie! Buster had a reaction like that (hives) on his tummy. It went away fast, but was from something he contacted outside!

Good advice so far and can't really add anything, but just wanted to wish your baby a speedy recovery.
