Hi everyone :) :) :)

Just a general question, does anyone else's Frenchie run around the garden ripping chunks of grass up?

Well Henry seems to be obsessed with the stuff, he will run around the garden like a tornado ripping up grass and trying to eat anything in site!

I was always under the impression dogs that ate grass had an upset tummy or was unwell?

He seems fine in himself, he isn't sick and he is going to the toilet normal.

Apparently it doesn't harm them to eat it as long as it doesn't have furtilisers or anything on it.

Any advice? :) :) :) :)

Jax is like a lawn mower. Sometimes when he is outside all he will do is stand there and eat grass. When he was younger and he ate too much grass, he would usually throw up.

I have tried to figure out the reason behind it but it seems like there is no actual answer.

Hi Henry and Pagan :)

My Ralphie was just like that! Ate grass, pine needles, pine cones, bark mulch, everything lol, it drove me crazy!!! my husband was building a house for a couple that had two boxers and he had mentioned to them that Ralphy did this and they recommended pumpkin and tripe. It worked! It did take a few weeks maybe less. Just a tablespoon a day of the pumpkin and the tripe as per the feeding instructions on the can. Good luck :)

Thank you,
Oh really? I was worried if he ate too much he would hurt his insides somehow?
He has been sick a few times but normally he runs around biting random patches.

We clearly have mad dogs!

Thank you,

Can I buy that stuff in pet shops?
It's worth a go, I don't want him to hurt himself doing it.
I've seen a few people talk about needing a trip to the vets with their Frenchies as they have had grass seeds growing inside them and all sorts (I'm a worrier lol)

Thanks again :)

Both my dogs think they are lawnmowers. No matter what I feed them they still like to munch on grass.

If your dog is feeling well and doesnt do it due to being sick, it could also be one of the two :
He is lacking something. You could 'fix' it by giving him extra trace minerals and enzymes with Spirulina, Wheat Grass or Tripe.
Or he could just like eating it :p I know Maps likes to lick/chew grass after it has rained and the grass is still wet :p Weird creatures they are! :D

Hi Pagan,

I do get the tripe from the pet store. Tripett its called and they have different kinds (beef, elk) but I am in Canada so it will probably be different in England. The pumpkin is just pure organic pumpkin in a can. As I usually only give it to him for a week and there is so much left over, I freeze it in the ice cube tray and then pop them into a freezer bag for the next time I need it (works with both runny or constipated poops) :)

My guys think they are cows -- constantly grazing! I've talked to our vet about it and his opinion is --- 'they just like to do it, means nothing'

Our Moses ate a lot of grass when he was a puppy. He has grown out of it now. We weren't concerned since my previous dogs, papillons, did that also and one of them did it as an adult too and never had any big issues...apart from occasional grass barfing. :mow:

There were a nasty incidence once when he ate grass and happened to sneeze at the same time and got some of the grass stuck up in his nose. We took him to vet who carefully cleaned the bits. No major harm in that. :)

Thank you everyone!

This has put my mind at rest :)

There's nothing I can do to stop it, as he turned into a different dog when he is around dogs.

He did however get stung by a wasp today. I got the sting out pretty quickly and he doesnt seem bothered at all.

He lost his first tooth as well.. He is only 3 months old, is this normal?

My EB Ruggles is a grazer, the problem is too much grass gives him the runs! Buster likes to lick the water off grass after it has rained.

Ouch! A wasp sting! Poor guy.
Yes, they will lose their baby teeth around this age up until about 6 mos. old. Every dog is different however.

Bisou only nibbles on grass occasionally, usually out of boredom if we're hanging out in the yard without much going on. Our shepherd mix on the other hand has been nicknamed "Moo Cow" and "Billy Goat" because of her obsession with grass. She practically mows the lawn for us and will almost choke herself on a walk to get to a patch of fresh grass. She's bizarre. :p
