Greetings from NNJ! My fiancee and I are mulling over a possible addition to our house. We've both loved English/French bulldogs forever, but we think a smaller pup is up our alley. Our families have/have had several dogs in the past, and we want to add to the group :)

We are in Bergen County NJ and would like a lead on some great breeders. Someone we ran into today (in Nordstroms!) had a puppy from Long Island Frenchies and he was really an amazing dog. We do not want to rush into anything so any and all information is appreciated. I (we) look forward to speaking to all of you knowledgeable folks!

We dont post any breeder recommendations in this forum. However,if someone in your area knows somebody, they can private message you or if you notice a member living close by,you can certainly pm them & ask :)

Welcome to the Forum! I am sure you will have lots of fun with your new puppy! :)

Hi ober51 and welcome. I think you have to determine what you are looking for in a dog and how you want that to fit your lifestyle. Sounds like you are both young - do you want a dog to be active with, like run or take long walks? Do you want more of a housedog? I find Bambi loves to play, but she also is more than happy to sleep on my lap while I watch tv, or take a nap on the bed when I am on the computer. They just want to be with their people. I don't take her walking much and when I do, it is just up the street and back, but that suits me as well. I am just ga ga over Bambi, our first frenchie, and we have only had her for three months. They are so energetic, funny, affectionate and entertaining. I have heard that they are a "big dog in a small dog's body," and that is true. They have the most wonderful personalities. Good luck with your decision!

:smileywelcome: to you and good luck in searching out a breeder. Look for someone who breeds for health and temperament. What you pay up front for a Frenchie is nothing compared to what you'll pay in medical bills if you get one with health problems.

Thank you! My apologies for breaking protocol about breeders. I certainly will keep an eye out for anyone in my area.

:welcome3: to FBN .... you can start by finding a breeder in your area on the AKC website, then DO your homework and interview them as they should interview you.

Here is some good info to read up while looking for a breeder -- http://frenchbulldognews.com/content/16-french-bulldog-puppy-buying-tips.html

Great, thanks for the link. About how many breeders does an owner interview? I ask because even if I have a great feeling about a breeder, do I keep moving on to another? I know that's a loaded question, but how will I "know"?

Thanks so much for the information. While we are young, we are not all that "active." We certainly will walk our dog but not run, hike, etc. I guess that would be nice in moderation, but we are first and foremost looking for a great companion/pet. Health and temperament are the most important characterists. Looks is wayyy down the list!

Welcome to the site and good luck on your quest to find a good breeder. I would say to follow your gut, if it feels right, then it probably is.

Welcome!! You will know when you find the right breeder. Trust your gut instinct. Good luck!

Welcome and good luck in finding your future family member. You won't be disappointed in adding a frenchie to your family.

Thank you! I am starting to ask some members here about their experiences/breeders. The pup I met in the store was amazing, exactly what I was looking for.

I think you're right. I need some Frenchie in my life.

I've been doing some research and found a few good breeders. I would feel better, however, if I had some personal references to go along with it. So, if anyone here lives within 3 or so hours of NYC, feel free to PM me. I'd love to bend your ear about your pup!
