@Calle_Roo - don't return them. Pop them in the microwave on high for about 45 seconds to a minute. The thing will blow up like a giant rice cake and Quella can gnaw on it without the risk of choking. I get the giant ones and let Bisou chew until they get to about 1/3 of the size and then nuke 'em. Both ways keep her occupied for a long time.

I do the same thing when I give Radar one. He now knows the drill and when he's done chewing on it in the original form he will give it to me for the microwave action. I think he likes them even better when they puff up and I feel better when they are in that stage because he also swallows instead of chews his food.

I tried to microwave several times for 45 seconds each time. There was a small bubble after the 3rd heating action, but not signifigant swelling. I got a 'dud'.

I microwaved for a couple of minutes. Of course it was slobbered on so maybe dip it in some water before nuking?

I think the consistency is different in each one, and I think the size also matters, so you might need to do it longer. When I have smaller pieces I can get away with shorter times, but I had a larger chunk once that took 2 minutes to blow up. You can heat them for as long as it takes - just keep an eye on it while it's "popping" so it doesn't explode - and then just make sure you let it cool long enough afterwards. It should look like a giant Rice Krispie treat.
