Anyone have tips to bulk up or get your frenchie a little chubbier?

Rocky is fed 1 patty a day. instinct raw. He's also fed banana in the morning, treats in the afternoon, dental stick etc. Doesn't seem to be gaining much weight and just a lean dog. Vet said he's healthy which is good and could just be genetics.

Any way to bulk him up a bit? He is neutered already.

Thanks in advance!

You could always add a 'good carbohydrate' such as Quinoa or steel cut oats.

I personally find that there is a big misconception out there on how a dog should look like. 1 in 2 dogs in America is nowadays overweight and sadly people are seeing this as the norm, especially with stocky breeds like the Frenchy or pug. Don't get me wrong, they are stockier but its supposed to be muscle, not fat.
Maple is all muscle but she is still rather lean and I like that! The vet gave her a perfect body score.

Cheli did not 'bulk' up until he was about 2 yrs old....

Every Frenchie is different and it sounds like you're feeding him a good amount of food. I would suggest holding off on neutering but since he's already neutered I wouldn't worry about him being lean. Wally is all muscle and has a very big head & shoulders, but a small waist.

I just took Jake to the vet today for his check up and I was a little nervous about him getting on the scale because I felt he had gained a little too much weight recently. He weighed exactly the same, 29 lbs. So he has just filled out more in the chest and shoulders which made me think he was so much heavier. He just turned 2 also. So I agree that it will take a while for your pup to fully develop all of those handsome muscles! If your vet says he is healthy then I would let nature takes it course.

She is so stinkin cute!!!

How old is he? In your avatar he looks pretty young. We feed our pups under 6 months of age three time a day, then switch them to twice a day. I like to feed our growing pups plenty, but not enough to make them fat. It's a fine line to keep. Try a little more food at least twice a day.

Thank you Jakeyjake :) She is my little baby :) (seriously though. She is like a spoiled litle child lol)

Maple is a doll! Bambi is the same color. I would like to put a little weight on her as well. I can feel her backbone when I pet her, although her muscular parts seem a good size. She has a tiny waste, and I think she is a small frenchie. The breeder said she was 19 lbs., but I haven't weighed her because our scale needs a new battery. I am not sure how to bulk her up, either. I'm afraid anything new I do is going to upset her tummy/bowels. She gets Fromm pork and peas. Breeder said to give her half a chicken leg (raw) twice a week but I haven't done so yet because I am somewhat afraid. When I give her more food, she just poops more. ?

Hi my French bulldog is skinny , but she is very fit . She has recently put a little bit more weight on. She has breakfast dog treat for lunch and supper.

How much food at breakfast and what do you mean by treat for lunch/dinner?

My Frenchie Cash will be 2 in March, he’s 34.5 lbs, not a chubby, very athletic, and the vet told me he had very dense bones and muscles, so I’m guessing that’s a good thing? Frenchie’s are somewhat new to my life, my life has always been French Mastiffs. So diet is a little different for the two.

How much does he weigh right now? I'm assuming the patty weighs 8 ounces? I'd try giving him a little more each mealtime.

Gus is currently on Stella & Chewy's nuggets. I like them because it's super easy to adjust the amount, while we are still figuring it all out. I started out with 8 oz, divided into two feedings, but have moved him up to 9 oz because I thought he was a little too thin. He's currently about 20-21 lbs at almost nine months.

Remember the recommended amounts are just a guideline and very flexible based on the individual dog.

That being said, I agree with the others, and that each dog is a little different, and we are kind of used to seeing overweight dogs - most of which have a ton of starch in their diet.

Edited to add: Actually, I'm going to find another brand. Found out that Stella & Chewy's uses HPP processing.

I've had the same issue with Carrot. She's going to be two in January and she weighs 19.6 pounds. I'm not too worried about the weight. I think she's perfect and everyone always says how fit she looks. But I can see her ribs. I'm not sure the recommended portion size on the food packages is right. I feed her Small Batch dehydrated raw and the recommended dead amount is four discs per meal. But I now give her SEVEN discs per meal. I've also added a 1/4 cup of brown rice or quinoa to every meal AND a heaping teaspoon of pumpkin. And she's still the same weight. On,y thing I don't do is feed her a lot of treats. She had giardia when she was young and I think it wrecked her digestive system.
