I am 98% sure Jax ate a stocking cap (same material as nylon) yesterday morning. He's been acting normal and hasn't pooped it out yet. If he was going to poop it out, would it have happened already? This is my first foreign object experience and not sure how worried I should be. I am going to call the vet today but was wondering if anyone has any experience with this. I have a friend that has an EB who has had to have 4 surgeries to remove foreign objects and I know that procedure is not cheap.

I have vast experience with foreign objects as my golden ate EVERYTHING. Socks, underware, an electric razor, Cowboy boots. The clothing items wou;d take a few days to see again. Nothing ever got stuck but I always thought it would. We were very lucky. Don't worry if it takes a few days. If he is eating and going to the bathroom normally then your fine. Here's what to watch for:

Loose poops (Kodi always got this when he ate something.
Vomiting
Stomach bloated
Refuses to eat

The loose poops never worried me as those socks of my daughters could stand on their own! GROSS! But any of the other things if they happen I would take him to the vet without delay. He's a little guy. You don't need issues. I hope you got pet insurance or a savings account at least. I hate vet bills, they are always so pricy here!

I will be thinking about you and little Jax. I hope all goes ok! Keep us posted!

Thank you so much! I feel a lot better after reading this. I was worried all day yesterday (and this morning) while at work thinking about him and I made my boyfriend leave work early afternoon to go check on him. So far he has been eating and pooping normally and running around. I have heard about dogs eating socks, underwear, etc. and passing them but I was still beyond worried about my little guy as I have also heard of things blocking and getting wrapped around by the intestine so of course I thought of the worst case scenario. I guess it would be okay if I waited a couple more days before calling the vet to see if it passes unless he takes a turn for the worse (fingers crosses this does not happen).

I do have pet insurance, thank god, and it has already come in handy with all of the allergies Jax has.

With Lucy, She ate like a cow as usual & still went to the restroom. She gradually got bloated after what I'm assuming was a day or 2 after we think she ate her forgien objects. Her tummy wasn't sensitive to touch really until right before her surgery. I can say this though, it's good your taking Jax to the vet, for some reason if he doesn't pass it (which I think will happen) its much cheaper then pet E.R. That's experience talking lol. On a better note, my old dog Eddie (he's a mix Lhasa Opso & Corgi) he really liked under garments, if you know what I mean. He used to eat them all the time as a puppy, he is 8 now. He threw up & passed I can't even count how many pairs of undergarments. lol

If he doesn't pass it sometime today, I will call the vet tomorrow. I would think if dogs could pass socks and underwear he would be able to pass this, it's not very big.

As others stated, it can take a few days.... keep an eye on struggle to :poo: or if he begins to have discharge from his anus or vomitting - that would indicate blockage

It can take several days and even a week. Lucy ate part of a towel, and it was a little over a week before she pooped it out. So as long as he is eating, pooping, and acting normal, I wouldn't worry about it. It should come out one end or the other. But as others have make sure to check his belly for any swelling or bloating.

Thanks for the replies! You all have made me feel better. Being that this is my first experience, I was definitely panicking and worried about my little guy. I will continue to monitor him and hopefully it will pass on its own and not require a trip to the vet!

Jax passed the stocking last night...yay!!!!

YAY!!!! So glad he's ok! Thanks for letting us know! I was thinking of you both this morning!

Yay! Great news!
Maple once ate a dollar and I was so happy to see it in her stool a couple days later. Never would I have thought looking at poop would make me so happy hahahaha

I can relate to that! I took him for a walk after dinner and he pooped and as I went to pick it up I noticed it had black in it so I was inspecting it close up and moving it around (using the bag of course). I immediately called my boyfriend and my mom to tell them the great news...ha ha.

Just yesterday Jake got into a candy dish and ate about 5 Jolly Ranchers...wrapper and all. We took him to the vet immediately so we didn't have to worry and they induced vomiting. He's fine now.
