Hello all !
So my Frenchie has had trouble with diarrhea. We toke him to the vet no parasites found at all. He has been on metronidazole, probiotic (forti flora by purina) and a bland diet (ground beef and rice ). He still has diarrhea not as much but still bloody sometimes. I am going to stop the ground beef because I think it may be the problem. I drain fat and also rinse off the meat with water but he still has diarrhea. It has been only 5 days since he has been on meds and diet but idk. I read on the dog food forum here Fromm was recommended I think I want to try adding that into the rice once he is done with meds. and see if that helps I think he won’t do good on chicken either. Any advice on dog food and what you guys give your dogs with severe food allergies would be great. I’m completely lost and stressed out about this whole situation. I feel like I can’t do anything for the poor fella he is happy and playful doesn’t show signs of illness but I am pregnant and would love to stop picking up diarrhea lol I need a break lol 473BDC78-6708-4BC1-AA4D-6DFA3A53E0CF.jpeg

Did they specifically test for giardia?

We feed Nature's Variety Instinct Limited Ingredient Turkey with good results. Try ground turkey instead of beef.

Good question from Citty... some vets do not test for giardia unless you ask. If they did not test for it, ask them too.

Bloody stool is usually a symptom of it.

Food.... try Zingnature duck or Acana dusk. They are limited ingredient foods

I did mention it to the vet tech but I probably will call tomorrow and double check. I hope they did cause if they didn’t I’ll be upset cause what’s the point if you’re only checking for one parasite.

As mentioned, Zignature and Acana are good limited ingredient foods. Raw or dehydrated raw would also be a good option.

Do you feed treats at all during the day in addition to what you discussed? We have fed our pup Stella and Chewy Super beef since day 3 at home after our vet recommended it. He poops less and loves it. His presents are consistent and less gas than with kibble. I will say that I have feed him too many treats, which I feel caused diarrhea/loose stool. Changing food has to be gradual or it will disrupt them. Best of luck.

Make sure you double check parasite test on coccidia as well. Another thread I read here today with similar issue ended up being coccidia. I personally know of a couple cases recently as well. This seems like a bad year for it. Best of luck.
