Hi all!

I’m in the preliminary stages of researching frenchies as a brred and would love more information about the breed in general. If anyone has suggestion on where to read about their general demeanor and the breed’s congenital defects. I’d like to know the full gamut.

I currently have a weimeraner who has dietary issues as well as epilepsy so a dog with special needs isn’t within my wheel house. Of course I’d like a healthy dog, but am equipped with the ability to care for any fuzz butt I love!

Welcome! Good for you for doing your research.

As with any purebred dog, Frenchies come with a list of potential health issues. They can be prone to allergies and spine issues, such as IVDD. They can overheat quickly so they don't do well with very hot temperatures. They tend to be "velcro" dogs and love to be with their humans and don't necessarily like being home alone for hours on end.

Finding a reputable breeder is very important.

They are also clown dogs and will have you laughing all of the time. They can also be such lovebugs.

Jax has environmental allergies and IVDD but I wouldn't trade him for the world.
