Hello everyone, I am new to this site and have been reading some what on here before joining. Wife would love to have a French Bulldog and we currently have 2 Chihuahua's, 1 = 11 years old and the other 5 years old. Would a Frenchie blend in with our current 2 dogs or would you not recommend it? Also a concerns i have is reading about health issues that this breed could have. Not concerned about bills if that was the case, but would hate to get one that would have these issues not to see the dog possibly suffer through them. How can you tell when purchasing? Currently there is a breeder 2 hours from me and they currently have a solid fawn female, which our other dogs are all females also. She is AKC registered and should fall in the weight of 21 to 24 lbs. Her parents are in this weight range and she is actually the runt of the litter. I saw a picture on the web of her and have been emailing the owner and seems to be legit. Here is a picture i received and this seems to be a big decision to make in this breed . Do you all get health insurance?

Hi and welcome to the site. The pup in the pic is a cutie, but I would ask the breeder to send more pics of her and see if they have any stacked pic of her. Does the breeder show their Frenchies, or have any champions in the bloodline? Also ask them if you can talk to their vet and other clients. Just because a pup is AKC registered does not guaranty they are from a reputable breeder, so many scammers and puppy mills out there. A Frenchie should get along with your other dogs, as long as your dogs are good with others. A male would get along better with your females, but if you want a female, then that's OK, but usually males get along better with females than another female would. Heath wise, as long as you get a reputable breeder with an excellent blood line, the chance of health issues goes way down. We do not use health insurance, I don't think it's worth the money, but that's just my opinion. We have 7 bullies, English and Frenchies and have never had insurance. Good luck with your choice of pups and do your homework on the breeder. An other thing, I would pay them a visit and look at their home, or kennel, and if it doesn't feel right, or is not clean, then go with your gut. If they don't want you to visit and check out the sire and dam, (sometimes the sire is not present) then I would walk away. If they give you more pics, please post them and tag me, I would like to see them.

Welcome! I am not an expert on 'judging' pups, but I would definitely recommend that you visit the household and determine the living conditions, guarantees and health records of the parents.

We have been lucky enough to not have any health problems (knock on wood) but have had a few accidents that required medical attention. Just like all puppies, you never know. When we were looking we actually searched (for months) for a "non traditional" Frenchie breeder, looking for puppies who were taller with longer backs. Many people don't like the look as much but we do and our vet who specializes in bulldogs has told us that the more athletic build will most likely save us from some typical bulldog health issues later on. Fingers crossed, but like I said you just never know. I definitely recommend insurance. Welcome, by the way! They are a wonderful breed and it's hard to have just one!!

thanks for the replies so far. I am in the process of getting more pictures and a video clip. She told me that there are no health issues as far as she can go back and she will come with a 1 year health guarantee. She only has 1 litter a year and the parents do have some show bloodlines and a few of her pups had been shown but never placed 1st but did place in the top 4.

Welcome to the site. davidh gave you great advice. Health and temperament are the 2 most important things breeders should breed for.

Here are a couple more images.

I have to say this is my favorite of the litter ,
she's every thing a lady should be , great profile
, beautiful ears stand straight up ,her
coloring is awesome , her front legs look like
tiger stripes , she is smallest of litter , I
really hate to sell her , but I've kept a puppy out
of ever litter .our sire and dames are pets , we
don't have a kennel , so no sick puppies , no
inherited defects as far back as we could go .sire
is 21 pounds dames normal weight is 23 , so my
blonde angel is looking for loving home .

all of our welping moms are kept in seperate quarters, our moms and dad
are treated as pets .each whelping mom has vet assisted birth. puppies are
only in contact with siblings , parents come from champion blood lines,we
practice breeding to akc standards

She is 3 hours away from me.

She sure is cute!

I actually met an adult 'runt' female cream today at a doggie festival.
She looked perfectly healthy - just smaller!

What a cute little girl! Davidh gave you great advice.... she is a sweety

:welcome3: to FBN

Update: she is sending me the name and number of vet and also pics of the sire and dames papers. $2100 for her so i am thinking she is legit. Does not have the AKC papers yet but they were mailed off. She was born June 27th.

OK, she is about 6 weeks old, so her size looks good for that age. She is a nice looking pup from what I can tell from the pic. Would still like to see a stacked pic from the front and side, but sounds like a decent breeder. It's good they gave you the vets number, I would quiz him on their breeding stock and what he thinks of the pups. I would still go look at their house and see their set up. Did they say how much she weighs? A pup that age should weight around 4 to 5 pounds.

Well we are the new owner of a Frenchie. I will post tomorrow and pics tomorrow. Just got back.

Thanks davidh and all. She is something. Her name will be Rosie. I have the name of the vet plus she told me that i can bring to my own vet and her checked out, which she said that it is usually $100 for a vet certificate and deducted that amount from what she wanted, and if he sees something to let her know and if i wanted to bring her back it would be no problem. Actually have that in writing and we both signed. Both parents were there and both were brindle and she was the only one that was cream colored out of the litter which was 6 pups. The person i bought from actually lives in a family community that was gated on 20 acres where all brothers and sisters live on it along with mother and father. It was really a nice kept up place. Rosie's parents both stay in the house. Her mom was 6 years old and this will be her last litter. I will post pics when i get back home from work.

Congratulations! Rosie is a beauty :)

Congratulations, she is a cutie!

That is fabulous! I have been away for a week and am trying to catch up on posts. Congratulations! How is she settling in? And how are the Chihuahua's reacting?

She is doing great. So far no incidents in the house due to us taking her outside everytime after feeding when we are home. Today is first day alone. Chihuahua's are doing well also adjusting. Now for food wise, all stores here only carry the Blue Basic so should i start with that for her. She was eating puppy chow from the breeder and she gave us a little last night. Also have natures variety brand locally.

Congratulations to you! Can't wait to see more pictures of your new baby!
