Hi guys,

I only recently met my first French Bulldog and fell in love with the breed! I've owned dogs all my life but always large breeds (GSD and similar). I'm at a stage in my life where I have less time/energy for the 1hr+ walks per day that large dogs need so I'm thinking that in the future, I'd like to get a Frenchie.

I'd actually love to get two together, a brother and sister. But I've never had two dogs (let alone pups) at the same time before. I would class myself as very experienced with dogs and training, but having said that, I'm not experienced with this breed. So... advice? Is there any major reason why getting two Frenchies at the same time would be a huge problem (aside from the obvious difficulties of raising two pups of any breed at the same time)?

Thanks! I hope to learn lots from the forum :)

In my opinion, it would be quite the opposite of a major problem. I have a Frenchie puppy who is high energy and requires a lot of playtime -- but doesn't like toys much so it's hard for me to play with him. They also get tired/hot on long walks, so for us those are out except for the early morning and evening. Because of this, I have to schedule a few play dates a day for him with other dogs. I personally believe that having two frenchies at once would be so wonderful in remedying this problem, and tired puppies are easier to take care of than wild ones! As a current puppy owner, I wish I had gotten two.

I always say you need more than one. They can keep each other company when you are not around, they have a play mate, and they will learn from each other. You will just need to watch their play time so they don't get too rough with each other/ I have three Frenchies, two are 4 years old and one 14 week old pup. They all get along great. Just make sure and show them the same attention and you should be fine.

Thanks guys. That's what I was thinking, and it'll be great to have the opportunity to have a pair, at last! I've always resisted getting two large dogs at the same time because it just makes so many things more difficult (ie. difficult to walk them both, cost of food, etc).

I assume that a boy/girl combo is best, like most other breeds?

My guy is best friends with another male Frenchie who's around the same age and they're in love with each other, so the two males work for us

correct.... good luck on your search and PLEASE keep us posted with pictures :D

We downsized to frenchies after having bull terriers, which are great dogs, but much more work. We first got our male, Jake, who is 16 mos. old and once we discovered how much he enjoyed playing with other dogs, we got him a playmate, Stella, who is 7 mos. Stella is definitely going to be the dominant dog, but they play and get along fine because Jake is such a sweety. Good luck to you and I'm sure you will have a lot of fun. Can't wait to see pics.

2 dogs is always better than one, but I would get 2 boys because they have better temperaments, females are called bitches for a reason! Congratulations!

I agree fully with Alice. Stick with two males better temperaments, less potential for fights. The only issue I would see wiht getting two at teh same time would be the all mightly COST! This breed is NOT cheep! I bought my boy for $2000 and I got a major deal on him. He was listed at $3000.

Hi Tom! Olivia and Wilson (see my avatar) are siblings. It has been great as they keep each other company, sleep with each other, play and have learned from our older Frenchie, Gidget. The one drawback that I see is the house-training. However, we brought them home in January, so it wasn't a great time to go outside. I am currently trying to convince my husband that then need to be crated to successfully get there at this point...

If you can deal with two puppies, then definitely go for it.
I want a second frenchie for sure but I dont think I would have liked having two pups at the same time.
When they are little they pee and poo quite often, start whining at night, arent housebroken, dont know basic commands and how to walk on the leash. Its part of the experience and I dont mind it but I think for me personally just one pup was enough.
Maple is now 8 months and I am now at a stage where I am starting to consider another Frenchie because I had time to 'restore' my energy and patience which you definitely need with a tiny pup :)

Yup. I waited until Ollie was one. I just got a new baby yesterday. Starting the puppy stage all over again. !!
