When we brought Cooper home we noticed that his neck was a little pink. It ended up going away for a while. He then started itching really bad! His chest turned bright pink and he scratched until he bled on his neck. We took him to the Vet and they said it could be something that's blooming right now or a food allergy. They gave him Temaril-P and it cleared everything up. They said to bring him back if it doesn't work and he may need medication for the rest of is life! It's back now.

He was eating Royal Canin puppy food when we got him and I switched him to Wellness Core puppy. I've also been giving him benedryl so he isn't suffering. I don't really want to put him on medication for the rest of his life, but I will do whatever I need to make him feel better!

I attached a picture of his belly. He isn't itchy on his back or anywhere else, just his chest and neck. Should I try a limited ingredient food? I feel so bad for him and I don't know what to do :(

He is also shedding a lot and has gas! The vet did a skin scrape and it is not mange.

Also, he is almost 5 months old.

A limited ingredient food might be a good idea. Stay away from chicken as that is a common allergen. You can also give a probiotic if you aren't already.

When Jax gets like that, I usually dilute a little povidone iodine with water until it is the color of iced tea, then dip a cotton pad in it and apply to the red itchy areas. You can do that a couple of times a day and it will help. You can also rub a little coconut oil on the areas as well.

Thank you! I'm going to try the coconut oil now. Is there specific probiotic that you would recommend?

I use Bene-bac Plus which also has pre-biotic as well as pro - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002V8P2S...qid=1491924069&sr=sr-1&keywords=bene-bac+plus.

I have heard good things about these ones as well - https://www.amazon.com/VetriScience...8&sr=1-1&keywords=vetriscience+mega+probiotic or https://www.amazon.com/Proviable-DC-Cats-Dogs-Capsules/dp/B0050JM626?th=1

That's exactly what happens to Dexter when he reacts to his food. Scarlet underneath. I agree with everything above. Try a very limited ingredient food - ideally just a protein with nothing else. It can take a few weeks to see a difference, so stick with it and hopefully it will be manageable without medication.

Good luck; you are a good mommy.

We ended up having a food allergy test done with our English Bulldog; that helped us choose a limited ingredient food that works for him. I recommend Nature's Variety Instinct Limited Ingredient! They have a variety of proteins!

Thank you all! I'm going to order the probiotics and switch his food.

What are your thoughts on these 3? I'm going to look into the freeze dried raw as well.

Also give an antihistamine such as diphenhydramine 1mg/pound twice daily , cetirizine 0.5 mg/pound once daily , chlorpheniramine 4 mg twice or three times daily .

Also, be a good idea to wash your puppy with curaseb or malaseb shampoo twice weekly for a couple of weeks then weekly until the problem subsides
