Hi,

Its been awhile (tax season time ) So taking Calvin to get neutered on Thursday morning. Having anxiety - and feeling guilty about the fasting :scared: The vet has instructed that I do not feed him after his feeding Wednesday morning, and can only feed him a 1/3 of his normal meal at that time and no water after 6pm Wednesday. I feed him 2 times and he loves to eat! I don't drop him off until 7:30am Thursday morning - boor lil booger is going to be starving  Just wanted to see if this is common protocol - and of course I don't want to risk his wellbeing. Just feeling awful about it all.

YIKES.... never heard of that protocol. all my guys were dropped of at 7:30AM and we were told no food after 8:00 PM the night before and nothing in the morning when they get up.

My vet says nothing after 7 pm the night before and mine got dropped off in the morning. My vet performs surgery in the afternoons, so it basically adds up to roughtly 18 hours without food. Will he performing the surgery in the morning perhaps? If you are feeding kibble it takes a long time to digest and you certainly don't want him to aspirate. He will be fine. I took mine to the park before I dropped them off for a special treat because I felt guilty too. Then of course, they got a new toy or three when we brought them home. Good luck.

Same here. I'd follow the vet's instructions though!

Same as above for me.... I was to feed him at 8.30pm and take his water up from the next morning. I dropped him of at 8am and the surgery was in the morning. Try not to worry, he will be fine. After the first day, he'll think there's nothing wrong with him!

And while your pup might act like he is starving, he won't be! I think it is better to be safe than sorry. You can then spoil him even more after you pick him up! Jax bounced back the day after and it was a chore to try and keep him from running around.

CalvinsMom, how is your baby?

Ours is like some of the others, no food after 8PM the night before and nothing that morning. The evening after the surgery we can feed a little but not the whole amount. They can drink water after we get them home from the surgery. The next day, they ara back on their normal food/ No rough play and no jumping for 7 to 10 days.
