Hello all! This morning Rudy woke up with what I’m assuming is a little puppy pimple. He drinks out of stainless steel and eats grain free Merrick puppy food (the beef variety). I am just hoping some of you seasoned frenchie lovers can confirm it's just a little pimple and nothing to be concerned with. 😬

Welcome... how absolutely adorable!!!

It might be puppy warts... weak immune system. Can you get a closer picture?

I know these aren’t the clearest, but he will not hold still.

I don’t think so. He’s had what I’m presuming to be moles since we picked him up. I say presume because we used to have American Bulldogs and they were quite moley, but these are a bit more visible (I hope that makes sense). I had assumed they’re moles because they’ve got whiskers growing out of them. But now I’m of course worried and second guessing myself. And of course Rudy isn’t letting me take any more pictures.

Do you think we need to get this checked out, not worry about it, or give it a few days and see how it looks?

If it is puppy warts.. it just needs to run it’s course, no medicine or anything to do for them.

I’d be sure to give a probiotic to help boost immune system. Raw goats milk, herbsmith flora, refrigerated sauerkraut

Keep an eye for any others to appear.. and if they do get best picture you can.

Thanks! I did some reading and apparently they’re contagious. Rudy is supposed to start puppy in a couple weeks, so if it isn’t gone by then I will take him to the vet to get a formal diagnosis I guess.

Would you assume wart over pimple based on the color?

Also, I brew my own kombucha. Would it be ok to just add a little bit of that to his water?

Really hard to till n the photo.. warts are usually a gray color and will appear in mouth.

Hmm.. I never thought of it, but I don’t see why not, if he’ll drink it.
Gonna go do some research :)

I wish the little stinker would let me get a better pic. Is it possible it could also be like an ingrown hair? It’s like a slightly more shiny black and his skin is black right there.

Keep eye on ant changes or if he begins scratching too... with a puppy it could also be mange. Vet will have to scrape to confirm.

pimple, puppy warts or mange... OH MY! :). It is so hard to tell in photo.. sorry

I hope you don’t mind me asking, but you seem very knowledgeable. Rudy no longer has the spot on his face and there are no new ones. No redness or raised areas either anywhere, but he is an itching machine. More than willing to take him to the vet, but wanted to see if you think it would be worth changing his food first. Currently he is on grain free beef puppy kibble by merrick. Considering getting grain free puppy Fromm. Thanks in advance!

So who’s I missed this post. I’m glad to hear the bump went away so most likely a pimple and not a wart. Jax had warts when he was a puppy and they are cauliflower like and he had one huge on on the outside of his mouth and then clusters of them inside his mouth.

Pimples can be common. One thing that can help is to make sure you frequently wash bowls and wipe mouth after eating and drinking to keep clean and dry.

Beef can be an issue so you can definitely change to a different protein or brand.

Any fur missing where he is itching?

You can give Benadryl to help with the itching 1mg per pound up to 3 times a day— regular Benadryl

How are his ears?

Thanks to both of you. No missing fur. Ears are good (currently a little curled back since he is teething). He doesn’t gnaw on his paws, either. We wash his bedding in a sensitive skin detergent. My husband pointed out that we both currently have super dry, kinda itchy skin (darn Ohio weather), so we’ve brought our humidifier out. Maybe that will help?

I’d leave food alone for now and see how the humidifier does for you all

Thanks! I feel a little silly for not even considering the dry air. I’ve been so prepared to deal with all the frenchie skin/allergy issues it just didn’t occur to me that it could be something else lol.

No worries... they are a science project! Lol
