Hello all!

I'm new to this group. I'm bringing my 9 week old Frenchie, Ivy, home next Monday and plan on starting her on raw. I was thinking to go with ground chicken and beef (with bone) for the first few weeks and then gradually introducing chicken backs and quarters to her diet. Additionally, I would be giving her raw egg with shell amongst fruits and vegetables. I would love to hear what supplements you give your pets as well.

I was trying to research some things that will help with her growth, teeth, fur/coat, and joints/hips.

All info, recommendations and suggestions are helpful!

Thanks a lot!

Hi there :)

Congrats on your new puppy and thumbs up for making the right choice for her diet
:)

Where you going to buy pre made raw food? Organ meat is super important (you only mentioned the meat & bone).

There are two things that are essential for all dogs, but especially puppies :
One , you want to make sure you're giving the right ratio of calcium/phosphorus. This is especially important( but also quite complex) when preparing your own raw diet.

Two, add a good Fish oil to the diet. EPA and DHA are essential fatty acids that are super important for brain and eye development. Infact its been proven that puppies given fish oil grew up to be smarter than 'average' puppies.
Make sure the Oil comes from a reliable source and it should be Sardine based since other fish are high in toxins. Once opened its good for 3 months, after that it turns rancid and cant/shouldnt be used anymore.

There are a ton of things you can add. Variety and amount are the key ;)

I personally add Spirulina,Coconut Kefir,Turmeric,Coconut Oil & ocassional Chaga Mushroom, Honey, etc.
I am detoxing my new (rescue) cat with Milk Thistle.
I usually make a smoothie ouf of kale, broccoli, apples, banana and give that to my pup. But on some days she just gets her meat/bone/organ.
Like I said variety is the key :)
I rotate between lamb, goat, beef and chicken. Twice a week I feed Tripe.
The only reason I am not adding Fish Oil is because I feed Grass fed meat ,so the Omega 3's in that are much, much higher and I feed some Sardines about once a month.

When you give her the whole egg make sure its organic and comes from a local farm. Most super market eggs have been sprayed with chemicals to make them look clean.

Thank you for getting back to me. I have been buying my grass fed meat from local butcher shops in Colorado. The meat here is amazing :D

I am currently in the market for a good quality grinder that can tolerate any bird bone. I plan on grinding her bone with the meat and organ until I feel comfortable with her eating it whole. Grinding the organ with meat gives me a better calculation of how much of what is actually going in to her diet. I know organ has to be introduced slowly and little by little. I learned the hard way with my big dog when he was a puppy. I will look into fish oil for her as well. Any particular brand you know of that you can recommend?

Awesome that you have a source of grass fed meats :)

I personally like the Ascenta Fish Oils. They are a canadian company, but they may ship/export to the US as well.
