Hello everyone! This is my first post and happy to be here to see all the other awesome french bulldogs everyone has. We have a little girl frenchie named Butters (pics below). She's 8 months old. We wanted to take her to the beach this weekend here in NY but we became concerned when we read about frenchies not really being able to regulate their body temperature and being prone to overheating. The high temperature that day is forecasted to be 87 degrees.

Does anyone have any experience with their frenchies at the beach in the sun?
Bad idea completely?
Any recommendations?

I would probably try to take her early in the day when it's cooler. Just keep a close eye on her.

I take Radar to the beach all of the time, he tends to cool off by running in the water. But since you don't know how she is going to react to the water I agree that taking her when it's cooler would be better. Also, bring lots of water and maybe an umbrella, if you are going to spend a long length of time, so she can escape from the sun.

Welcome! Butters is adorable! She should be fine as long as you bring an umbrella for shade and let her run in the water to cool off.

I agree. Bring her earlier in the day when it is cooler and make sure you have plenty of water for her to drink.

Don't forget the camera! We love pictures, you know. :)

Agreed with everyone else. We just came back from Tofino and it was quite hot for Banksy.
An umbrella, a dish for water, cold bottled water to refill the dish!

Also earlier in the day or later in the day not right in the middle when it's the hottest out.

Sorry but the thread hi-jack, but I LOVE Tofino! We went there for our honeymoon. Beautiful area!

Welcome to you and Butters! What a cutie. We take ours to the beach a lot but just in the early evening to play fetch and make new furiends! (Dogs are only allowed after 5 pm where we live) I would avoid the heat of the day and go early or later.

I know isn't it just amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We rented a house on the ocean a few months ago. WE LOVE IT THERE!

:smileywelcome: to you and Butters. I have had English Bulldogs for years and we always do the beach things early in the day when it is going to be hot!

Thanks for the many responses and helpful advice everyone! Since we are trying to make a day of it, sounds like it's best wait a few weeks until it cools down.

:welcome3: to FBN... What a cutie pie

Butters is a honey! We are in NY, too, and it has been very hot this last week. Bambi loves to be outside and lay in the sun but she overheats very quickly, especially if she is running around or out there mixing it up with the passers-by. I can't keep her out long in this. Fall is coming and that will be perfect to take her out with you.
