So it has come to my attention that little manny has some very bad tear stains. I have searched high and low for remedies and have been using desitin for the last few days hoping it will work. My questions are, how long should this take, what happens to the already red area under his eyes and in his wrinkles? Does the desitin work only to prevent new stains or does it help the color of the hair at the moment as well? Should i use peroxide and cornstarch as a secondary to help?

Thank you!

Here's a few pics

Jax is a fawn so the stains aren't as noticeable but I've used witch hazel to wipe the folds and I also switched from tap water to distilled water and I think that has really helped.

Ugh, the dreaded tear stain! A bane for all owners of bulldogs....

I had an English bully with deep folds and her tear stains were bad. The first thing I did was switch her food. She was on a poor quality food and it was causing the reddish, yeasty stains. The second thing I did was use peroxide/water on a cotton ball and wipe her fold daily. Once the stains were gone I would switch to baby shampoo/water on a cotton ball and if they got smelly or started to look dark I switched back to the peroxide/water.

Good luck! :)

Since I switched Louie's food his year stains are much better!!!

I swear by the Malacetic Otic solution I was referred to on here. We use just a little bit on a make up pad once a week and apply it to the folds and it seems to clean and treat the tear stains. I think I purchased a bottle right off amazon.

We tried everything on our pup (except we haven't heard of Malacetic Otic solution). Desitin didn't really help much. We're currently wiping with peroxide and applying a little bit of vaseline on the stain 2 times a day. The stain isn't completely gone, but we're seeing the stain area get thinner, lighter and we can start seeing white hairs when we open the wrinkle. We also give him half a tums 2 times a day. I should post a before and after pic, because his stains were really bad 2 weeks ago.

Good luck and let us know what worked for you

The only thing that worked for us was finally finding the right food... took about three years of trial and error, but she is great now.

So I've been using the milk of magnesia, peroxide, and cornstarch at night and it appears to help a little. I also use desitin during the day to keep the area dry. Its only been about a week but hopefully it goes away soon!

This is my Leo when I first got him (the first picture) with a noticeable tear stain and a photo taken about two months later (the second picture).

I'm not sure what works for everyone, but I know what works for Leo.... His diet is grain free kibble, raw and a veggie and/or fruit (mostly banana). I never give him water from the tap, only filtered. And I do not feed and water him with a stainless steel bowl.

He also gets his face/eyes wiped with a wet/damp washcloth every morning.

Louie had bad smelly tear stains and we switched his food from wellness puppy to nutrisource grain free. We also use probiotics and coconut oil in his food. The tear stains are GONE! I think the food change played the biggest part.

Hi! My Frenchie pup looks just like your little guy - did you ever find anything that worked for his tear stains? Would love a reply!

My aiko has tear stains also and we haven't found anything that works. Following this thread in hopes to learn of something that helps
