Hi guys, I recently adopted Elliott, a little brindle pied French Bulldog. He will be 4 months old on September 20th, and as of right now he only weighs 8 pounds. He has a healthy body score but he's just so tiny. Has anyone heard of smaller french bulldogs? I don't see him getting to be even 20 pounds full grown.

Great news! Elliott will do fine under your care! Show us some pictures! The weight is definitely a little light, but if he looks healthy, it's not a big concern. Check the palates? Some dogs are just smaller than the others. Have fun raising Elliott!

Here is the little guy. I work for a vet that specializes in bulldog breeds but we mostly see english bulldogs. I've always wanted a frenchie so I'm doing my best. He's gained 2-3 ounces in the few weeks that I've had him.unnamed.webp

Don't worry! You can't really tell how big he will be until about a year old. I have a 7 month old female abs she's only 15lbs! Very tiny and most ask me if I got a miniature Frenchie. She was the runt and also had and still has ongoing health issues. I'm hopefully that she'll get bigger ... She is not rail thin and her ribs don't show. Just a bit lanky

Yeah I figure even if he is tiny, he's happy and healthy so I'm happy!

I've been researching this issue for months!

My boy is very small as well. He is currently 6 months old and only 11lbs.
I've looked at a few weight predictors and they are predicting 13-16lbs for his adult weight.

Looking for a Puppy Weight Chart? (<If you want to check it out)

There was a thread on here I found awhile ago where someone had put together a chart of a lot of peoples french bulldogs weight stats & ages.
A lot of the weight gain times varied pretty drastically. some gained the bulk of their weight between 6-12 months and some gained the bulk after they hit 1 year.
Some that were "runts" or fairly small ended up being 30+ lbs and some of the bigger puppies plateaued and stayed under 20lbs.
Its crazy how drastically different each french bulldog is, it makes it so hard to predict their approximate size.

(I know this doesn't really give you and solid info, I was hoping my thoughts might help)

Thanks for the insight, yeah I guess I just get worried because I have been looking at videos of other frenchies at 4 months and they are HUGE compared to my little guy! He did have worms when I first brought him home but those cleared up and I guess I'm just being an overprotective mom. :)

I totally get it I'm the same way, absolutely nothing wrong with wanting them to be healthy & gain weight how they should.

I make sure he has the best quality food I could possibly find (that is gonna put me in the poor house, I swear) I was worried for quite awhile about him being so small I thought maybe he wasn't absorbing all his nutrients or not processing food correctly in his body, because he's gained a total of 1/2lb in the last 2 months. So we went to the vet did a couple of extra tests and he is completely fine, totally healthy, just really small.

I was talking to someone the other day (who also has a frenchie) he was telling me his 6 month old weighs 20LBS!!!!! My jaw hit the floor. It absolutely blows my mind how individual their little bodies are.

Mine just turned three and I still worry about her weight and frame all the time. She's totally normal, of course, I'm just being a worry wort. Beezy tops the scale at 16 lbs., 2 oz. She was the runt of the litter and nearly died from aspirated pneumonia, so I assume that contributed to her small size. The nice thing is that she still has a sweet little baby face and looks like a puppy.

He is a cutie pie, and don't worry about the weight, he will be a little on the small size, but that's OK, and normal.

He looks healthy. You shouldn't be concerned. Different dogs grow differently. And some tend to be smaller and some bigger.
