Hello yall

Just wondering what age you waited to neuter your male frenchie, and why?

Thanks

Mine will be 2 in November and is still not neutered. Our vet and breeder both asked that we wait until at least a year so he could fully mature. Beyond that, the vet recommended to wait as long as we could, "behavior allowing." Ours isn't neutered yet because he doesn't even know he's a boy lol and has zero behavioral issues so we aren't in any hurry, but if we had issues we would have done it right at a year.

Our vet reccommends 1-1 1/2 as a good age for males.

I agree about waiting as long as you can though.

I spayed my girl at 6 months, but my boy probably isn't going to be neutered til he's around 1 1/2-2.

Jake was neutered at 7 mos. I would have waited longer but I couldn't take him mounting everything, including my leg!

I did all my males at 8 mths and my girl at 6 mths

We had Buster neutered at 8 months because of behavior issues. We tried to wait longer but he was Mr. Humpty Dumpty and getting aggressive.

My girl is almost 2 and still intact. I have no desire to get her spayed at all.
I am very much against early spay/neuter. There is more and more research being done, that shows that an early spay/neuter is linked to an increased risk of joint disease and cancer.
( Spayed or Neutered Dogs Have Higher Disease Rates Health Issues Linked to Spaying and Neutering Dogs )
In many european countries spaying/neutering a dog is against the law unless deemed necessary by a veterinarian due to inflammation/cancer of the sex organ (for example).

We tried to wait longer with Buster, but he was becoming a bully!

Wyatt was neutered at 7 months. Clancy is over 10 months old and we are meeting tomorrow to see if he can be neutered yet as he has a compromised liver which has been ongoing and worrisome. We don't know what caused his liver issue but it has improved.

Thanks everyone. We have decided we will wait as long as we can, behavior permitted.. at least a year. But we do have to neuter as a part of the purchase contract!

In my country spay/neuter is not that common. I know a tons more dogs that are intact and only few that are done, for those it is normally due to some special circumstance like they have both males/females in their pack or some health related issue. We are thinking of leaving Moses intact since he does not have any behavioural issues.
My previous gods, papillons, lived a good healthy life. They were not neutered. My boys went to the rainbow bridge in respectable age of 14 and 15.

My vet recommended waiting until around 3 years.
Bentley is 6 months now and no behavioral issues yet besides he goes crazy sometimes and runs around. But I think that's just his personality. Haha

Jax was neutered at 6 months and he has turned out just fine. I say to each their own as long as you don't do it too early.

3 years hey? I have never heard of a recommendation for that late before!

Mine is 3 and hasn't been neutered yet. He never had any behavioral issues so I never felt the need to get it done.

Oh yeah that totally makes sense, what I was saying was that I haven't heard of a vet specifically saying to wait until 3 years old to neuter
