Hi. I have a 5 month old frenchie And within the last week he has started to throw up once or twice a day. Usually it is at night and appears to be partially digested food. I feed him 1/3 a cup of Natural Balance dry food 3 times a day. I've been feeding him a little less and more spread out since he's been getting sick. He is still just as playful as ever and doesn't appear to be in any pain. He poops and pees fine. He's been on Natural balance since I took hi, home from the breeder. Any ideas???

Ugh... I'm drawing a blank on the member name but someone has the exact issue with their baby too

I would try a different food, either that food is not agreeing with him, or you may have gotten a bad batch. We had a Beagle once that would do the same thing. The food would be OK for a few weeks to a month then she would start trowing it up. We changed to several foods, and were about to give up then finally we found one that agreed with her, and she stayed on that food until she died at the age of 14 years old.

I just tried boiled chicken and 30 min later he threw it up :( any other ideas?

I am going through the exact same thing with Nellie for more than 3 months now! I have tried different foods, different proteins (kibble, cooked, raw) and it hasn't made much of a difference. She can go four days without comiting and then bam we are at it again. I've been to four different vets including an internal medicine specialist who seems to be my last option at this time because in the last week she has been comiting digested food while sleeping and almost aspirating on it! So back to the specialist tomorrow because I made the call to do some diagnostics on her to get to the bottom of this. It could be that they find nothing and I'll just have to live with it. I've written to two of the raw companies that I've fed her to see if they can offer tips. I've tried some great tips from folks on here but it's still a problem. I hope it's just a spell for your pup and not a long time thing like I've been dealing with. It's a real mystery. Also after trying so many different kinds of food, I think Nellie is tired and now refusing to eat even her favorite treats. Aargh! So my newest tactic is putting small bits of her raw food on my palm, spreading it out and letting her slowly lick it instead of inhaling it. She is still comiting though. But I'm confident that I'll get to the bottom of this. I'll keep you posted on my girl and let me know how things are with your pup.

The simplest thing to try first would be a different food. Do you use an elevated feeding bowl? If he is eating too fast you can try a slow feed bowl as well.

Agree with Cbrugs. Jake was a gulper and would vomit. It stopped once I spread the food out into a bowl that is probably suitable for a Great Dane!

I have just taken my 7 month old to the vet for the same thing and he has Megasophogus and a hernia. He can now only eat liquid food and is very ill indeed. To add to this he also has a bent spine and an enlarged heart (hence the reason I have just joined this forum to get some help). I hope your dog doesn't have this but sounds exactly the same as what Gaston has

I would defiantly go to a grain free food, try smaller more frequent meals like you said u were doing. They tend to be such little piggies and gulp a lot of air. If he is gaining weight and is happy I wouldn't worry about it. As he should grow out of it. Good Luck and please keep us posted. Fromm grain free is very good, u should give it a try.

Otismama and MunasG, I am so sorry to hear of your babies. I hope so much that they grow out of this as they mature. Have you seen the special bowls that slow down eating? I am so sorry! I hope both of these babies get better.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions turns out it was giardi and ileus. He seems to be doing a little better but I'm still nervous. Good luck MunasG saying a prayer for you both.

Hey all sorry for the silence. Glad to hear that you've figured out the reason behind your pups vomiting.

So Nellie got worst last week and was aspirating on her vomit so we pushed forward the diagnostic and did an X-ray, scan and barium test. Most of those came back normal but two of the barium scans showed a bit of food and liquid coming back into her esophagus from her stomach. They still think she has a hiatal hernia but again this will only be proven with a scope which is the next phase. This diagnostic phase cost me $700 out of pocket after the insurance refund. I really don't know what to do but it's obvious there is something wrong. So the vets have put her on another motility medication to see if that'll help. She's still been vomiting but not in the last day so I hope this works.

The other option they gave me to reduce the cost is that they can spay her at the hospital and while doing that procedure they can stitch up her stomach as if she already has the hernia and skip the scoping phase. I am really hoping that this new med works and I don't have to go the surgery route. Because spaying at this emergency clinic is very pricey.

I still continue to try different foods too to see if that'll help.
