We've been battling recurring ear infections with Hudson for a while. I clean his ears bi-weekly with the stuff the vet gave us, and use the ointment they gave me to treat them -- but I just don't think they're going away all the way! They still seem to be bugging him and he's messing with them all the time, especially at night.

He's a total beast to try and get the ointment into, it takes two of us probably twenty minutes. I can't help but think maybe we aren't getting it all in.

Does anyone have any suggestions for things I can do to prevent or treat the ear infections besides the ointment and cleaner? I'm at the end of my rope with these!

Does he have potatoe in his diet? Some feel that it is an inflammatory food and could cause problems with ears. Allergies are sometimes tied in with ear issues as well. My daughter's Am bd had chronic ear infections and she suffers from allergies, but once she changed her food to a grain free fish formula and no potato she has not had an ear infection since. He's not getting water in them is he? That could create ear issues as well if they don't get dried out.
He sure is a cutie.

After looking at his food bag, no potato in his diet. We change his food (flavor) almost every week to prevent developed protein allergies and despite the changes we are still seeing the ear issues.

Yes he is absolutely getting water in them. He thinks he is a lab and will get into water any chance he gets. He loves scaring the bejesus out of me by surprise jumping into the shower with me. Every time he gets water in them I'm always very careful to get them dried and then clean them with the solution that also has drying properties which is what the vet recommended we do when we have a water incident. We've been trying to cut down on "water opportunities" for him but he is relentless.

Thank you for all of your input and the compliment!! :)

yea, the water will do it for sure... he is too funny with the shower surprise! Cheli runs when i open the shower door

I would try to keep him out of the water and see if that helps, if not then a food change may be in order.
