My 1.5 year old frenchie has recently started getting sick in the middle of the night. He has been eating meals made at home for the past 9 months and he has not had any problems. Last week I woke up to him dry heaving next to me in bed and thought it was just an upset stomach. He threw up a small amount of bile (maybe a table spoon or so). Every night since then he has vomited the same amount once or twice throughout the night. His energy is normal and he acts completely normal throughout the today.

He got his rabies vaccination about 2 weeks ago.

Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Throwing up bile is normally due to an empty stomach...also known as the hunger pukes. You can try adjusting his feeding times a bit or give a snack before bedtime.

Right now he gets fed at 8AM and 7:30PM. His vomiting typically occurs around 3AM-6:30AM. I could try feeding him a little later, but it seems like if he is fine throughout the day, shifting his dinner a little later wouldn’t change much, no?

There have been a couple of times where a little food comes up with the bile.

You could save out 1/4 of his dinner and give it to him at bedtime, hopefully that will stop the night pukes!

My dog will not go to bed without a night time snack!!!! He has the same thing night time nausea and vomiting. Vet said it’s normal . If he doesn’t get a nighttime snacks he will suck and chew on his blanket or eat tissues ..... just give the puppy a nice chewy night time treat and see the vet!!!!!!

Agree... save a little from dinner and give right before bedtime

Hi! My dog is two years old and has been doing this the past two nights. What ended up happening with your fur baby??

I learned about "hunger pukes" on this site. I started giving my dog some raw treats mid day and then again before bed so that she always has a little something in her tummy. Has not puked since.
