In fact, I don't even get to PICK my puppy (from a group of 4 fawn females out of a TN show dog breeder - pic below!) until after next weekend I think - when they are about 6 weeks of age. The breeder has first pick, the stud breeder has second, and I have third. So I watch them grow by try not to pick a favorite until I know which will be available! Then I wait until 10 weeks to get my puppy. The waiting game is hard, but I also know that my whole life will change on June 6th, so I am enjoying the time to prepare, and thinking about how to manage the responsibility!

I *think* she will be named Eloise, with Lulu as a nickname, since I know calling "Eloise" is not going to fly. We'll see. My first english bulldog boy was Maximus, and even tho it was always shortened to Max or Maxy, I still liked his full name. :) I've been looking at french girls names for weeks!

I'm really happy to have found such an active community - I know I'll have alot of questions, despite my experience with raising two english bulldogs (divorce, don't ask...ugh...), and I love connecting with experienced and new owners alike!

I recently moved BACK to Mpls, MN from San Francisco Bay Area - quit my FT traveling job and took an even BETTER one, with almost no travel. I live in a newly refurbed old building in the middle of downtown - so the good and the bad of the city. And of apt living. But we'll make it work, and it won't be forever. I think of it like a phase - immerse myself back in the city, with friends, the job, the gym, etc, and then move back to the suburbs and get a house and yard and such in a year or two.

I lost my dogs, and my cat died suddenly soon after I separated, so I am REALLY ready for a pet, a companion, something to love and take care of again - now that I am in a position to do so! Aaaaand I am scoping out adorable dog sweaters on Etsy - this dog will need some gear to make it through a MN winter!!

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Karla
ps the one on the right, although she looks submissive there, is a spitfire. DESPITE that (?), I am hoping she is available. Darg, I just jinxed myself!!! In a previous week, the breeder said the middle two were looking good to she and the other breeder. We'll see... :/

My name is Teresa and I live in Greenville, SC. I know how impatient you must be. We are picking up our little boy, Pierce, on Saturday. We have been waiting 3 weeks and that seems like an eternity. My husband said it took him 3 years after our English bulldog died to be ready to get another dog-knowing it would be a Frenchie this time-and now that he decided he wants him here now! I loved our English bulldogs, but am looking forward to the smaller size and the personality of the French Bulldogs. I know you are going to have so much fun! Thanks for the idea of looking on etsy for sweaters. We won't need as many as you, but a few will come in handy.

If you are REALLY brave, like I am, you might consider THIS accoutrement...It's ridiculous, but I actually have to figure out HOW to get my puppy around downtown, to the cool grass places she can play and run, when it's too far for her to walk. Puppy stroller? Bike basket? This was the most flexible, in my opinion. And look at how HAPPY the little english bully puppy in the pic is! I think it's photoshopped - the pic on the box is the same, but without the goofy dog smile. Doh! Expect posted pics of my baby and I breaking this thing in - I actually have a SECOND one without the holes, for when she is smaller...Oh, I have a problem, I'm well aware... :) Karla

Welcome to the site and those babies are precious. You can't go wrong with either one of them. Frenchies are awesome, and we have a 11 week old pup, plus his two grandmothers, one is 4 and the other is fixing to be 4. looking forward in seeing which one you get, and you will just love it.

Thanks David - I loved the pics of your puppy, Henri, laying on Hazel (I think!), and the two four year olds together! I can see how "frenchie collecting" is a bug that would be easy to catch! Hah, except I saw a Ceaser Milan show where a woman in NYC had 4 frenchies in a 1 br apt, and they were HORRIBLE (to each OTHER especially!)! Ruining her life. Let's just say, scared straight...And also already have my new baby and myself signed up for puppy obedience classes - at an actual dog obedience school, not petsmart or the equivalent! Hah! I hope and pray she is more trainable and less stubborn than the english bulldogs! :)

Welcome to FBN, Karla, and congratulations on getting a Frenchie! My little boy is a "blended" Bulldog, but I find him to not be as stubborn as the EBs we have had!

Oh how fun! You should start a poll with photos of each pup so we can vote on who we think you will end up with! Give us a little excitement! Living vicariously through new puppy parents. Congrats on your soon to be new frenchie.

MamaAndi - seriously, everytime I see that picture of your puppy, I have "BMF regret" (**edit - that's really black masked red, isn't it!?)! Soooooo adorable - I seriously looked for a black masked fawn, and just didn't find them when I was looking. I like the idea of a poll, but then I think I'll feel badly when I pick the LEAST favored pup! OR, the top 2 favorites aren't even AVAILABLE to me! :( A good friend calls my pick "the dregs"...I just smile...The last two dogs I've gotten - there WAS no pick! Do you want this one or not? Yes! So, options aren't always our friend I guess! I'm going to see if the breeder will send me video of the puppies that I have to choose from, so I can SEE them moving at least, get some idea of their personality. I don't know when they are picking - she just said "6 weeks" - ugh - this weekend? Next week? I'm a communicator, I need more info! :) When I know what 2 are mine to choose from I'll post it... :)

karla215 - Hi Karla and welcome to the site!! I can tell you are very excited, as you very well should be, this is such a wonderful breed!!! :) It sounds like you have found a decent breeder and the 10 week age is a good one (not taken away from mommy too soon)! They are all just absolutely gorgeous and cute!! You can't go wrong with any of them! :) Also, love the name you have picked out, both the short and long version! So sorry to hear about losing your English Bullies and your kitty, I just can't imagine losing my babies to a separation! :( This is a great and supportive community and everyone is very helpful with questions! We wish you the best.... and can't wait to see photos of the baby that becomes yours in just a few short weeks!!!!! How exciting!!

Welcome to FBN!

LOL Christine, Love that show too!! :)

The second one is so cute! But they are all so adorable :)

Lkclark, I think that is the best looking one too! It's "red", she always has a red collar on in pics. But I think she'll get picked to be a show prospect, unfortunately! With the two breeders ahead of me, I'm hoping that the right most one is too small for them! :)

Hi Karla - Best of luck! I know how hard it was for us to pick Gidget out of 3 puppies! Our last additions were planned and we knew we wanted a male and there was 1 male in the litter, so that was already decided. We had one female lined up (it was the only avail out of a litter of 2) and the breeder wanted to do a swap with our breeder so we ended up with the male's full sister who I had fallen in love with on a visit to see the male.... if that makes any sense at all. You will have the coat full of dog sweaters to my coat full of costumes!

I can't see how you could go wrong with any of those cuties!

Anne, Gidget, Olivia & Wilson in VA.

Awe thanks Anne. Oh I plan for a costume or two as well! I had great fun with my boy bulldog with costumes!

Found out the other breeder is traveling to TN next week sometime. So the wait continues. She's going to try to get video next week once they have their next shots and can go outside. New pics tomorrow. Wait and wait some more. I'm patient, I guess! :) Puppy won't arrive any sooner. Will post updated pics when I get them!
