This is Bronson's first ever summer! However things just seem to be going wrong all the time!! Not long ago we took him to the vets with red ears and browny discharge from one and we got an ointment, that's now cleared however in between his little paws there seems to be red bumps and he's licking and nibbling them a lot, we're worried this is allergies of some description and now under his eye, where one of his skin folds are it's reddy and looks sore?? Really not sure what to do, just wondering if any of yous have any ideas on what it could be and how to help the poor little guy before we take him to the vets?!

Thanks

Hudson had some redness, swelling and soreness under one of his eyes in the folds. At the advice of another member here, I purchased malaket wipes on amazon. It has now cleared up. As far as his paws go, to me it sounds like he could be allergic to grass or the like. We are in prime allergy season. I've been giving Hudson half a Benadryl twice a day for the last couple of days because his allergies have been bad and it's helping a lot. Others on here use Zyrtec.

Could be yeast overgrowth which can be caused by allergies. I have also read that potatoes can cause yeast as well. I'm not sure of any home remedies that can help as both times Jax has had a yeast overgrowth, he was put on medication. I might have read somewhere about apple cider vinegar soaks that help.

I'd also say to add a probiotic to his food regimen. It's so hot and muggy and allergy-ridden right now (everywhere it seems?), and adding that can only help him out.

I'm definitely going to try the wipes thank you!! Yeah we thought maybe he's allergic to grass just worrying as he's our first puppy so just like to makes sure before we take any form of action! I'll get some Benadryl today and hopefully that'll help him. Thank you :)

He doesn't have a funny smell about him though, or on his paws, could it still be yeast?

What are you feeding him?

We were feeding him Royal Canin but we've recently changed onto Wainwrights hypoallergenic he seems to love this food as he wasn't fussed on eating the other one and his coat was awful on it! The problem in his paws started before the swap of foods

What do probiotics do?

Thank you for all your replies :)

Some of the benefits canine probiotics may provide:

-increased natural resistance to infectious disease in the gastrointestinal tract and a first line of defense against disease
-prevention of dangerous fungal overgrowth
-reduction or elimination of some allergic reactions
-antibiotic action against certain pathogenic bacteria
-enhanced resistance against viruses
-optimized digestive processes, allowing maximum nutritional benefit from food
-improved resistance to toxic bowel problems
-resistance to diarrhea
-stimulation of the immune system
-improved resistance to food poisoning
-production of needed nutrients, such as vitamin K, one form of which the body itself cannot make
-improved lactose intolerance conditions
-reduction of cholesterol levels
-antioxidants (inhibit the destructive effects of oxidation)
-improved resistance to stress of all kinds
-overall improved quality of life and longevity

Healthy guts are the foundation of wellness, in all creatures :)

I use Fortiflora which is a powder that I sprinkle in Jax's food every morning. I order it on Amazon.

thats what chowder is on right now.

My trainer told me that trader joe's probiotic (for humans) is good for dogs as well.

Acidophilus & Probiotic complex
it says 2 billion organisms per tablet, i might try that out.
Fortiflora is so pricey :\

Most of the time it is food related, I'm glad you got him off Royal Canin, it is not a very good food. I hope he improves with the new food.
