Hi everyone,

I finally have an update on the lump! Firstly, it's nothing to worry about - phew! Would you believe it has actually been a foreign object that has somehow gone through his skin and started causing problems. The vet said he's just baffled, as there was no entry point anywhere near the lump, so goodness knows where it has punctured his skin.

We'll never know what it was, as it wasn't present in the gunk that came out, so the likelihood is it has dissolved as it was turning nasty under the skin. It's just crazy! I am so, so pleased it wasn't cancerous though. Such a relief.

The vet cleaned the wound site this morning, and it was really unpleasant. I won't go into details as I'm sure you can all imagine. So it is very raw and exposed again. He's also back on painkillers, and I've to keep up the salt water cleaning. And the cone stays on....... I've to take him back next Friday again to make sure it's healing up ok.

I think I'll sleep better tonight though knowing that he got the all clear!

Thank you! I know - I wish I could understand what had happened, but I guess it's just one of those odd things...... Even the vet really wanted to know! He said he has seen grass seeds get into feet and legs before, but it didn't look like that.

Well, would you believe the lump on Dexter's head has come back..... And it's leaking weird stuff.

I took him to the vet, and he was referred for a specialist appointment so we can get a CT scan and see what on earth is going on in there. So that's on the 12th May. So I have 13 days to worry about it......

He's not sick or anything which is great. But the vet isn't happy with what's happening and he doesn't want to operate again as its not a great area to have to cut into once, never mind multiple times. I just really hope it shows something up so he's not being anaesthetised for nothing.

He certainly knows how to worry his mum and dad!

I hope the CT scan can actually reveal the problem. I can't believe surgery and meds didn't fix that! I mean you'd think SURGERY would've done the trick! I'll keep my fingers crossed its still nothing serious [emoji177]

His big head is certainly causing a lot of stress! It's really disappointing that it has come back so soon, but really hoping this scan will get to the bottom of it. Even the vet was upset when he saw it was back. He said Dexter has very weird skin.... But he's my little weirdo

I'll update again after the 12th with how he gets on.

Thank you The good thing is when they sent away the "stuff" they took out of his head the last time, it wasn't cancerous. So I'm hopeful that they'll maybe see where it's coming from with this scan. Looking forward to it being over with though!

Hi everyone,

So, yesterday Dexter was at the specialists for the day. When I took him in it was the first time they had seen him, and after a good look over him the vet said he wanted to do two different scans on him - one standard CT, and one where they introduce dye into the lump and his veins and check to see where the blood is flowing. This meant he needed to be heavily sedated, but I said just do whatever you think you need to do for him. He'd also been throwing up all morning with hunger, so they were giving him some reflux medicine before they could sedate him. So I left him for the day, thinking that I was the one who could have been sick with worry!

Anyway, back to get him at 5pm. He has a 2cm mass sitting under a muscle in his head. The vet explained that it doesn't have a blood supply, so unlikely that it's a tumour. But he won't know what it is for sure until it's out and has been analysed. The lump on his head that we can see isn't the mass, it's an escape route for some nasty brown liquid stuff this thing is producing. The vet said he's really surprised it isn't making him noticeably sick, but as we all know dogs are very good at hiding any sort of illness or pain.

He's scheduled to have it removed by them on the 26th May. He should get home the same day, but they may keep him overnight depending on how it goes on the day. They were all just so good, and so friendly that I know they will do the best they can for him. The poor little guy - he's constantly had something wrong with him since we got him, but I'm really hoping that this will go well, he'll recover quickly and he won't need to see a vet again for a long time!
