Newbie from CA

Hello! I am Lisa from CA. I am getting ready to add a frenchie to our family and before we do, I want to do all my research and know what questions to ask and what I should look for. My husband and I do not have children but our dogs are our kids. We do have 2 German Shepherds currently but I have wanted a French Bulldog for years and now we are thinking we are ready! I'm looking forward to meeting you all and picking your brains for all the info I can get on this amazing breed!

I see you are in Northern CA! I'm in Sacramento! Are you aware of any reputable breeders in northern CA?

No way! I'm in Sac too! Our first breeder provided us with an absolutely lovely, extremely healthy puppy but they're not exactly AKC standard conforming, so to some would not be considered reputable. We wanted a longer, taller puppy and definitely got one (a great thing to us but others will likely disagree)! We are starting our search for Frenchie #2 and looking closer to home, so I'll be sure to let you know if we find a good one! We might go back to breeder #1 for Frenchie #2 of all else fails.

WOW! Total small world!! Yes eeturk.... I don't need a frenchie with papers as we don't plan on breeding them.... We are just looking for a healthy baby. The more research I am doing, the more I am finding there are shady breeders out there. Which is actually why I joined this amazing group! I want to know what to look for! I'm super anxious to get our frenchie but want to make sure we are well educated and find the perfect baby for our family. How far did you have to go for your first frenchie eeturk??

Hi lmrowberry - welcome! Good luck in your search. We have had four other dogs and have loved them all (we don't have children, either). We kind of fell into Bambi in December (we also have Ginger, a dobie mix). Best thing that ever happened to us. Frenchies are just wonderful; they are so different than other dogs. Bambi is like the baby I never had. She is small but strong, so comical, happy, goofy, sweet, serious, adorable. Keep us posted. Love your shephards.

I guess I never realized how many of us here are in California! Hello and welcome from myself, Shasta, and Bisou down in San Diego! We've got a similar household to what you have - it's me, my fiance, our shepherd mix Shasta, and our Frenchie Bisou! Shasta is the best big sister, and we never realized how lonely she was until she had a furry buddy to play with. My fiance and I were both dying to get a Frenchie before we even met, and Bisou is absolutely perfect for us. I can't imagine NOT having a French Bulldog ever again. They are amazing dogs that steal your heart right away. Looking forward to your journey to Frenchie mommyhood!
