Evening forum,

We are trying this forum for first-hand advice and opinions on all things frenchie. My girlfriend and I have a 8-week year old female french bulldog names Stella. She was purchased through a vet who is a breeder. We were given strict directions as to what to feed Stella, but have been experiencing rejection on Stella's behalf to many of what was recommended. Here is the lineup of what we were instructed to feed:

Royal Canin Mini Start
Joint Max Triple Strength Soft Chews

Stella is with her mother now so I will be able to provide the remaining details later. I'm curious what you all would recommend for a pup like Stella. Thank you for taking the time to read over our concern and offer suggestions.

Hi there and welcome to the Family of French Bulldog owners...Really happy for you...

Royal Canin Mini Start from my opinion a really HORRIBLE food and I really don't know why he would suggest it, only if he would be sponsored from this company...

Here below you have some choices wonderful and this are ''not Affiliate links''

Taste of the Wild High Prairie Puppy Formula with Bison and Roasted Venison Dry Dog Food, 30-Pound Bag: Dry Pet Food: Pet Supplies: Amazon.com

: Amazon.com: CANIDAE Grain Free PURE Foundations Puppy with Fresh Chicken, 24-Pound

CANIDAE Life Stages Duck Meal, Brown Rice & Lentils Formula For Large Breed Puppies: Dry Pet Food: Pet Supplies: Amazon.com

And here one more tip, teething phase is coming soon. So check out this article French Bulldog Puppy Teething

Let me know if you need any more help

Welcome!! Congrats on your little girl!

I agree. Royal Canin makes horrible food and sadly many vets recommend it because many sell it. I used this site to figure out what food to feed my pups: Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble It gives you an idea of what foods have more or less grains, fillers, etc. I feed my Frenchie Acana Pacifica.

:welcome3: to FBN

Agree with the gang.... RC is crap food. Please look into other options -- think grain free. We feed Fromm grain free line and used their Prairie Gold red meat version for our boy when he was a puppy.

Yup, as said above: RC is horrible!
Most vets and breeders recommend it because they are being sponsored by them and/or on comission.

I personally feed 100% raw, but from what I have heard I really like Acana and Orijen.

Make sure the quality of the ingredients is superior and you want to feed a food that is high in (animal)protein and therefore low in carbohydrates (which turn into sugar).

Agreed with everyone above! We have both our frenchies on ACANA puppy & Junior, and they LOVE IT

It is a high quality kibble, and has TONS of protein options you can switch around to so they don't get bored.

Anyone know why the vet/breeder would recommend the Joint Max? Looking it up it looks like something that would help an older dog with arthritis or something; it seems rather harsh for a puppy...
Unless maybe it's being used as a vitamin because RC isn't that great...I don't know...

I find it odd but perhaps other people have other experiences with this?

I am assuming the vet/breeder is also being sponsored by them as well, or works on comission.

It does not make any sense to me to give these to a puppy.

Are these (RC food and those treats) the only things you are supposed to give to your puppy? Because you mentioned they gave you strict advice what to feed. It seems very fishy to me and looks like $ is more important to the breeder than the true health of this puppy...

My breeder did not recommend Joint Max but they did recommend the Royal Canin Mini start.... im assuming its what MaplesMommy says.... sponsorship or something along those lines

Have to agree with the above that RC is a horrible food. My vet sells it and we do not see eye to eye on canine nutrition. You can also check out Dog Food Reviews and Ratings | Dog Food Advisor for reviews on other brands. I like Acana singles. Orijen is another highly recommended brand but it was a little too rich for my dogs. Good luck.

We feed Bambi Arcana and Orijen with good results.

Hi,

Louis, our new pup is also about 10w old. The vet also recommended Royal Canin junior, which were absolutely horrible, Louis would only eat them if we hand-fed them.

Fortunately, our older frenchie (5 year old Tuni) was already on Acana Pacifica, which were great for her. So I bought Acana Small Breed Junior for Lou as well. I will let you know how these work out after the first few days, as they only arrived today.

Hi and welcome! As you can see, we have our own little pack. We feed Blue Buffalo (adult and puppy!) and I also home cook for them. When I am pressed for time and am out of home cooked or it's not ready yet, we use the canned Blue Buffalo instead.

Good luck!
