I notice Beatrice's tail hair looked odd today so I investigated. It was matted and a bit of puss. I took her to our vet and they think she might have a screw tail. Started her on an antibiotic for the infection and an anti-inflammatory for the swelling. We have an appointment with a local vet who sees many many Frenchies and has one as well. I need to stay off the internet because I just want to cry, or scream, or both after reading all of the negative impacts of a screw tail in my sweet Beatrice. Please help me get my head around this.

I'm so sorry you and Beatrice are going through this and just want to send good vibes your way as I have no experience with this. Good luck to you!

Sorry to hear that with you baby, but it's not the end of the world. We have an English Bulldog who had a screw tail, and hers was growing back into her back side. We had surgery on her to fix it. Our bully vet is great, He took the bone out, made a skin flap to get rid of the tail pocket, and left the rest of the tail there. She still looks like she has a little bun tail, and no more problems. We don't even have to clean her tail. Best thing we ever did for her. So if you have a good bully vet who has done this type of surgery several times, your baby will be fine.

We also have an EB that had to have tail amputated... best thing we could have done for him-- no more infection or ichty pain

Update. We found a vet who has done many of these surgeries and owns a Frenchie as well so he knows the breed. He is very confident in his ability and we got a very good feeling from him so we scheduled the surgery for this coming Monday. He is going to spay her at that time as well. We are obviously anxious bit hoping for the best. We just want our baby to be a happy and healthy little girl. Thanks for the encouragement

It has been two long weeks since Beatrice had her surgery. Keeping a 6 month old bulldog calm while mending was next to impossible. She tore her stitches once and I held her while the vet stapled them back together and she didn't even flinch. This little girl is tough as nails and all is healed except for her hair to grow back. First pic is right after we got her home on Halloween. We called her "Franken-Booty" .

Awesome! The fur growing back seems to take forever ... Lambeau was about 6 months
