Rocco and I attended his first FBRN fundraiser yesterday, at Woofstock 2015 in Long Beach CA. It was a fun little event, and we helped man (dog?) the booth along with Cherie the Surf Dog (check out her FB and IG) and her mom and dad.

Rocco has never been around so many people and dogs, but he did a great job and enjoyed all the head and chin rubs he received. Unfortunately, I don't think he caught anyone's eye (the diabetes thing scares off most) to adopt, so we will keep on waiting.

Towards the end, I put Rocco up on the table, and a family came over to say Hi. Rocco inched himself forward, reached out and gave a shy toddler several gentle licks. It was an awwww moment!

Cherie and Rocco raised $270 for FBRN! :donate:

"Hey you, young whippersnapper, what'd I tell ya about keeping yer paws on da wheel? An' slow down, too!"

That's awesome, and looks like a fun day. Rocco is such a sweet baby, I'm hoping he will get his loving fur-ever home soon.

Looks like it went well. I really can't believe that someone hasn't snatched him up yet. I'm sure the perfect family will come along. :)

He looks stylin' in that car! I hope he finds his family soon! He seems like such a sweet boy.

Awwww, sweet Rocco.

May I ask what kind of care is entailed for his diabetes? I'm just not familiar enough with it. Is it that 'difficult' that it scares people off, or is it a money issue?

What a sweet boy. I'm so glad you guys raised some money for a great cause. :D

I would imagine the idea of having to give a dog shots twice daily forever scares most. Most people don't realize that in addition to insulin injections, diabetic dogs must have their blood sugar tested prior. Adjusting insulin dosages is an ongoing thing, but you get used to it after a while. Food must be measured and fed at 12 hour intervals. No treats except the occasional green bean.

His insulin and supplies run around $100-110/month. That might scare off some people too, but to me this is a manageable cost.

Looking at him, you'd never know Rocco has diabetes. He is healthy and strong and athletic. He has more stamina than my 2-year old Frenchie. Once I got used to the routine, it just takes a few minutes to test his blood sugar and later give him his insulin. Easy peasy!

Considering what I just spent in 6 months due to a PARASITE that cost is reasonable for a dog's health and wellbeing.

I'd be afraid but that's also why you just go go your vet and have them walk you through, and don't leave til your comfortable :)

I hope he finds a great home he is such a sweetie!

Ahhhh gotcha. Yeah, I'm in the same boat in that I don't think $100/month is that unmanageable. I had a friend whose dog had to be on a medication that cost almost that much per month, and she whined and moaned about it constantly, even though she truly could afford it. (I saw her spend money on other silly things) Good lord, like blushy, I spent *tons* on a chronically ill pug that I used to own (which I will admit, put me into debt), but $100 is doable.

Interesting, though...just like humans! Test the blood sugar, inject the insulin, etc. Poor little Rocco. I hope he finds a home soon.

God bless you, Fosta Mamma, for taking such loving care of Rocco. He is such an angel. All of you here are such good mommies (and daddies)!!!
