Well Remy is down for the count. Poor guy can't catch a break. We are here waiting for another appt for suspected dog flu. He most likely picked it up at the vets on Tuesday when he was neutered. More susceptible because he is young and just had surgery. Apparently they have had several cases in the last days and it has hit our area hard. He has heavy eye and nose congestion. Foamy vomit. You can tell he just feels yucky. His breathing isn't labored but definitely congested. He had severe diarrhea 2 days ago along with a lot if reverse sneazing...but it was thought to be from the breathing tube and meds. I also think he is running a fever 😣. I feel horrible!! Has anyone dealt with this flu? Not sure what they will do for him, but I'm concerned with his congestion and breathing due to the breed. Healing thoughts welcomed.

Sorry to hear all he is going through, hoping for a speedy recovery.

Thank you for your thoughts. It is the flu. Poor guy. They put him on antibiotics to make sure a secondary infection isn't starting like pneumonia because he is so junky. We are going to do saline nebulizers to try to break some of it up. That and steam showers. Just need to watch him close and keep him hydrated. It's really contagious so now to watch the other two boys as well for possible symptoms. I've never had a dog with the flu so it's new. Very much like us having the flu and you can it's really hitting him. So much snot. Hopefully this is the worst of it.

Poor little buddy.... feel better soon

Hope he feels better- takes about 2-3 weeks. You could theoretically treat him with tamiflu 1 mg/kg every 24hr for 5 days and prophylaxis the other dogs with 0.5 mg/kg every 24 hours for a longer period of time, but this is a non approved use and little is known about side effects in dogs. (There is also a theoretical risk that a resistant strain to tamiflu could develop that could later spread to humans.) I think the vet should have practiced better infection control if he had other dogs with flu in his practice.

Poor lil guy!!! :(

Keeping him hydrated is the most important thing.

Update us when you can.

I am so sorry; it is horrible to see them not feeling well. Too late now, but I'd rather have had the vet call me to give me the option to reschedule to a later date.

I hope Remy is feeling better with every passing day. Good luck; please let us know.

Remy seems a tiny better today, however he passed it to the other 2 boys as well . 3 sick dogs was not our idea of a relaxing weekend. Poor guys are taking turns coughing, gagging and shooting snot everywhere. Unfortunately our vet did not have any confirmed cases before Remy. They had a few possible cases 2 days after his surgery but the owners didn't want to pay for the test. Most likely (similar to humans) he was exposed to a dog that was contagious but not symptom yet at the vets office. They got hit hard over the weekend (us included) with others that had been there the same time as Remy's surgery but weren't symptomatic at that time. Remy has had no contact except vets office so we know it was there he caught it. Looks like everyone in our area is on high alert as it's spreading like wildfire. It's never been in our area so they didn't even offer the vaccination before now. I'm not sure why they thought it wouldn't make it here....dogs travel lol. Just crossing my fingers I doesn't last the full possible 2 wks.

The vaccine is no guarantee anyway. I don't do it for myself or my family (including Gus).

Hope your babies get better soon. Poor things.

Wow all three pups!!!

I can't wait for you to write and say that everyone is better. Good luck.

Well we are a week in now and little Remy seems to be a little better this morning. I'm hoping the other 2 aren't far behind. They still have a horrible cough causing a lot of gagging and minor vomiting. Thankfully they have been drinking well and are able to hold food down. I think everyone is ready to be free from this crud.

Remy is up playing this morning!! Definitely has a little pep to his step. Also great news. The vets office felt horrible he caught it there. They just refunded us the cost off his surgery as well as meds, and two following appts. That was a first!

So glad Remy is feeling better! I'm sure the other two aren't far behind.

That is awesome that the vet's office refunded you everything!
