Hello, we have a 5 month old Frenchie puppy. We didnā€™t know about tail pockets until our sweet girl started losing her mind and running around in circles because of pain. We ended up going to the emergency vet because she was shaking and wouldnā€™t let us near it. Weā€™ve been twice now (two different vets) and the vets canā€™t clean it because sheā€™s too upset. Neither gave us medicine but one tried to shave it down. She has a cone now but sheā€™s completely lethargic, the area continues to have blood and is oozing. Iā€™m so upset and canā€™t see how this is going to get better not cleaned out! Has anyone dealt with this? Please help!

They did nothing to help her pain? Good lord

Where are you located?

Can you try to clean the area with a squirt bottle.. use witch hazel or benidine solution from the pharmacy

We were really surprised that they didnā€™t give anything for the pain either. Itā€™s been rough. Weā€™re in the San Diego area. Thanks for the suggestions. Appreciate it!

Are any of these near you? If she gets a deep infection, it will be a long road for recovery. Iā€™d get to another vet immediately, if you havenā€™t already

Buster has a tail pocket. We noticed it before he was maybe 10 months old and had started bouncing and spinning around on his butt. He held his head up and his mouth kept opening and closing. His pocket is just underneath his little stub of a tail. I clean it twice daily with unscented baby wipes after he poops. When it was infected and very red the vet had to clean it and put panalogue cream on it. It was very painful when it was infected and the whole vet clinic heard him crying! The daily cleanings have prevented more infections.

I have no tail pocket experience but you e been given good advice! I would definitely find a new vet that has bulldog experience!

Thank you for the help! Much appreciated - we will definitely look through these. :)

Hi Liz,

I'm just seeing this post now, and I agree with everyone else above! Unfortunately, we've been to many vets also who I had to literally explain what a tail pocket was to. It's so frustrating!

Ella's tail pocket is deep and gets yeasty, so it's been a tough one to keep from getting infected! Once you've taken her to a vet, I would definitely try the Douxo chlorohexidine pads and Desitin. They were a miracle worker for us. Literally the only thing that helped after months of it getting red and sore!

Best of luck!

Liz,
So sorry to hear that your puppy is going through this, can you provide an update on her condition and your treatments that helped or didnā€™t? I also have a 5 month old Frenchie pup with this issue which became apparent this morning. Sheā€™s acts normally but is very sensitive around her little tail. We applied chlorhexidine this morning and povidone iodine this afternoon but we canā€™t really clean it because she goes absolutely wild in response to any touching of the area. This is my first post and I hope this is not considered hijacking since itā€™s the same issue, Iā€™ll start a new thread if admin prefers. Any advice would be very appreciated. One last thing weā€™re taking her to a local animal hospital in a few hours since our vet canā€™t see her until tomorrow and itā€™s starting to present with fluid which is crusting and possibly puss.
