Torn cruciate in 10 month old. Surgery or No surgery?

I brought my 10 month old Lola to a new Vet. I changed vets mainly because I was concerned about her breathing but was told that she has a torn cruciate and should have surgery to repair it. Lola does not limp or show any signs of discomfort and runs and jumps easily with no pain. I brought her to another trusted vet and he said not to worry about it, she only weighs 18 pounds, he said it would heal on its own. He recommended keeping her lean, not to let her get over weight and said she should be fine. Does any one have any suggestions? I really don't want to start operating on her legs if she will heal on her own.
Both vets recommended correcting her breathing with surgery. Going to a specialist to have that done.

Thank you for any suggestions.

No experience with this, but I would keep a close eye on her for any sign of limping, or dragging that leg.

I know that it is less of an issue with small breed dogs than larger breed dogs, but that of course a lifetime with out the ligament functioning properly can lead to arthritis issues in the future. So yeah, keep her lean, and start with joint supplements now instead of waiting (fdasuquin or similar, omega-3s, glucosamine, etc). Talk to your vet about what is right for your pup. I have both my 12.5 year old and my 5 month old puppy on Zeel tabs (homeopathic) and Condrostress, which is a kind of joint supplement similar to Dasuquin. Keep an eye out for signs of limping or lameness.

Did the vet say how her patellas are? That would be more my concern.

Thank you for your feedback. I've already started her on joint supplements and will definitely keep a close eye on her for signs of limping or lameness. Her patellas are fine as of now, but I know that they can be a real issue with Frenchies.
I would never have guessed there was anything wrong with her legs, she runs and jumps around all the time and appears perfectly normal.

Thanks again.

Thank you, I will definitely look into that. I started her on Phycox Max but it seemed to upset her stomach, so I stopped it.

agree with the gang... keep an eye on her and give the supplements.

Breathing... keep us posted many here have been through the palate and nares process so could help if necessary
