Tuesday, Rico is getting neutered... I didn't think I would be as nervous as I am. It's unbelievable how much I love him...

Any pre/post op advice you guys can offer?

Also, given the French Bulldog build, are E collars usually necessary? I feel like he has issues getting to that area on a daily basis! Hahaha.

I kept e-collar on after spay when I wasn't home. Didn't want any mishaps. But during the day, no.

Good luck; I think a neuter is easier than a spay. I bet he will come home, take a nice sleepy and be up and running around like nothing happened. Bambi can't reach her backside either, or not many places for that matter. If they are ever injured or have had a procedure, it comes in handy.

I understand your concern about taking him in. I would like to have Bambi's nares done because I really do think she needs it, but I get sick when I think of her being uncomfortable and having to wear an e collar.

It always makes me happy to hear how much people love their frenchies.

Hope everything went well! Dexter had 3 surgeries at the same time, so his recovery was a bit different. If he'd only been neutered his recovery would have been very quick though. It's actually hard after the first day to stop them thinking they're fine to start running and jumping as usual! :-)

Good luck Rico! Don't worry, being ball-less won't make you any less suave! :D

I was worried all day when Wally was at the vet but it turns out he did just fine and the staff were sad to see him go. I did leave his cone on when I wasn't at home just to be on the safe side but when I was home I had it off and just kept an eye on him.. Like Rico, he just can't bend well enough to reach his boy bits.

Rico will do just fine. We didn't use the cone with any of our male Bulldogs because they couldn't reach the area to lick. We did have to crate them though or our other dog would have licked the incision.

Good luck to Rico. We didn't need to use a cone on Jake and I can totally relate to being nervous. I totally insulted my vet of 20 years because I had never had a brachy breed dog and I wanted to make sure he followed the proper protocol for anasthesia. He set my mind at ease when he explained how they do things differently for frenchies. When we picked Jake up he was just a little groggy and then you will most likely be instructed to feed a light meal.

My two female bulldogs didn't or couldn't lick their operated area and they never wore a cone. Our non operated dog was always trying to lick the stitches on the operated dog as well. I wouldn't let your dog drink much water or eat anything postoperative the day of surgery, since he will just throw it up. He might throw up even without doing any drinking. Make sure to ask your vet what to do about the wound for follow up. One of my dog had no external stitches and the other did have stitches that needed to be removed 10-14 days postop. The vet never told me about that and luckily my wife noticed them and I called the vet and they told us to take them out in 14 days.

Ahhhhh!! He's doing great! I can't tell if he's being loopy or just milking it LOL he seems so alert but then again he was swaying back and forth earlier hahahaha.

No E collar. The incision is so small, and he totally can't get to it.

He pooped in the house but it was my fault... I thought his circling around was him being loopy but he just had to go hahaha. Poor little guy.

Then he started hoarding his toys.... so cute. I'm so glad it's over now!

He's such a handsome pup! I absolutely love his colouring! The hardest part when I got Wally fixed was to stop him from playing with Uma while he healed. They are such strong dogs!

Cuuuuute! Glad he's doing fine and not feeling too sore. Love the toy hoarding too - he's just collecting them all up for when he's allowed to start crazy play again! Is that a toy tree?!? It's so cool haha!!

AWESOME!!! Good lord he is so damn adorable!

I actually have a question for you all.... so today is the third full day after the neuter. He is literally acting like nothing happened. He is on Carprofen for two more days. His incision looks great....

But.... he's a total lunatic! Definitely because he's been pent up while I put him on low activity bed rest lol. However, it's getting harder and harder to control his energy and I don't blame him! How much activity is too much activity? I feel so bad about limiting his running etc and keeping his walks short, but I don't want him to hurt himself!
