Oskar is now 5 months old and fed a completely raw diet. The last week or so his breath has been bad. Iā€™m guessing its because heā€™s teething? He has a few adult teeth in now so we were going to add brushing to his routine this week, but usually raw fed animals donā€™t smell this strong :eeeew:

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Give him frozen raw marrow bones to chew on. Helps keep their teeth clean by the chewing on them.

He has those too! He spends his days right now with those, bully sticks, and knuckles. Heā€™s a chewer, thankfully he hasnā€™t done anything to get himself in trouble. Maybe he just lost a bunch.

I wouldn't give more than 2 marrow bones a week, as the marrow is very fatty. If your raw food doesn't have sea kelp, which is good for teeth and also acts like a multivitamin, then you should buy it separately and mix in about 1/8 tsp twice daily with his food. https://www.amazon.com/Starwest-Botanicals-Organic-Powder-Pound/dp/B004XIS14M If the bad breath continues he should probably be seen by vet as a few other conditions such as uremia ( kidney disease ) can cause it.

If I remember correctly, losing teeth can cause bad breath.

My pupā€™s breath was atrocious when he was teething. Breath got a lot better once his adult teeth came in.

Bully sticks cause it too... those things stink to high heck.
