Hello everyone,

We are so grateful we found this forum for these wonderful little canines. As soon as we saw our male fawn Vinnie, our hearts sank and we brought him home. The breeder said he was familiar with the crate she gave us, and knew to go potty on pads/paper. He is 14 weeks old.

As soon as Vinnie got in the door that night, he had an accident. We assumed from all the anxiety. Fast forward 4 days, and now he poos outside (knock on wood) and pees outside, aside from an accident or 2 throughout the day (which we always catch and immediately take him outside to show him "this is where you pee"). He's affectionate, and always wants to be with us, or watching what we are doing. Even yesterday he went on a long 25 minute walk through a trail, peed outside, and then snored away for an hour.

We are trying to correct his "refusal to walk" issue, especially in the morning in the rain when we take him out after night. If it's raining and/or cold, alot of the time he'll sit there staring at you somberly, or just pull back on his leash if you try to encourage him to move forward. Also, the minor pees in the house which we know is due to young age and small bladder, and can be corrected in time.

Thanks everyone for all the information and help!

Sounds like you are on the right track! I'm glad that the forum has been helping you!

Hi and welcome! I can relate to your post. Bambi detests the rain. She is not crazy about snow either, but she tolerates it better than getting wet. She equally despises wet grass. To see her walk, you would think she was stepping on hot coals for Pete's sake. When we got her, she wasn't housebroken either. (We got her as a three year old.) I still don't know if she actually "gets" the connection about needing to hold it to go outside, however, when we take her out on a regular and predictable schedule, there are not accidents. Seems like the only accidents are on my husband's watch :bitching: because he will decide to do something first before letting her out right away first thing in the morning or as soon as he gets home. I have found that Bambi is way smarter than I thought and she picks up very quickly. You will get there with your frenchie. She is still a baby; just be consistent so that she knows she will always have an opportunity to go out before she needs to relieve herself inside. Also, crate training is a lifesaver.

Good luck! Pics, please!!!

Rain and cold are Cheli's nemesis ...... he hates both and will do all he can to avoid going out in it. This morning it was raining very hard and he sat staring at us from inside, like he was saying ''I ain't going out!' I had to go pick him up and bring him out to go potty --- needless to say, he was none too happy, but he pee/poo as he needed to :)

If that's the worst they have to deal with in life, then I don't feel so bad.

It seems all of our Bulldogs hate rain! Snow has won their approval!

Welcome!! Vinnie is adorable!! Wally too is not a lover of the rain. I make quite the fuss to encourage him to go outside, clapping and such. He would do it anyway but he seems to like the fanfare. lol! :D

Rain hater here too! Explaining to him that he lives in Scotland and will be dealing with it A LOT didn't seem to help either! :D

Tell him to put on his listening ears.

:D

Wow, Scotland - very cool!

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, we've discovered if it's raining or the grass is wet (common in the Pacific Northwest) we carry him out to his designated "spot", far enough so he has to make a trek back to the door to come in. He's doing great, and we added a teaspoon or two of pumpkin extract to his food, it's seemed to really help him with his fibre!

He is definitely teething now, I plan on buying him lots of options other than my Lazy Boy..... 003.jpg005.jpg007.jpg
