Okay, so I finally received Lucy's AKC Registration Paperwork. We ordered the 3 generation Pedigree, some of her "ancestors" have DNA #'s. is that of use to me? is there a way to see what there DNA was? More curious then anything.. any tips?

I'm not sure. I didn't order that when I did the paperwork for Jax.

We had a foster frenchie/mix once and she had a dna test done. I think her former owners had just done it for fun though to see what she was mixed with. Not sure why it would be terribly important for a purebred dog? I imagine it has something to do with breeding and keeping track of lineage though, perhaps to prove a dog comes from certain lines?

Maybe bullmama or davidh can shed some light on this for us? :)

Sires of litters require a DNA test if they sire more than 3 litters in a year.

All reputable breeders I know will DNA their breeding males and register with AKC, and like Lisa said it a required if they have more than 3 litters in a year. It's really of no use to you unless you want to prove he is from the sire they say he is.

So the DNA numbers for past sires can be looked up somehow? or no? davidh

You can get a report from AKC if they registered the DNA with them.

Cool! Not that I want to do that, but I think its cool lol! thanks! davidh
