I have read a few post on here but would like opinions on what really worked for you all in this situation. Rosie is now 16 weeks old and has now begun to eat her own poop (really gross). Want to quickly get rid of this habit. I am not able to stay home all day and noticed that when i crate her is when she is doing this while we are at work. When we get back there is the smell of poop, but none in the crate. She is currently on Fromm gold puppy, Nuvet Plus, and 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil. Nuvet Plus once a day and two separate meals daily (1/2 cup each) which in the evenings is when i add the 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil.

So far i read pumpkin, banana, forbid, meat tenderizer may help but not sure how much to give of them daily or which one would be best. Please help me kick this habit that she is just starting to do.

There is a product called For Bid that you sprinkle on their food that is supposed to help with carphagea (eating poop).

:barf: so many of them do this for different reasons. Good luck finding how to get her to stop.... I have no experience with it, but wanted to wish you luck

There is a product called For Bid that helps with coprophagea (poop eating). You sprinkle it on their food. I haven't used it but I have heard positive things about it.

There seems to be a ton of reasons why dogs do this and Frenchies seem to often be culprits. We have this issue with Rootbeer. He eats his own poop or his siblings poop sometimes. We literally have to chase him away to get him to stop. We've tried pumpkin and pineapple to get him to stop and neither worked. We have not tried meat tenderizer or any of the products specifically made for poop eating. Good luck!

Hopefully she will out grow this. I would not try the meat tenderizer, I wouldn't think it would be good for her. I have never tried the "For Bid" but heard it works.

My puppy did the same :(
We try pineapple, his vet told me about it
And it worked

Hudson did this when he used the potty pads. Since being potty trained he has never once tried it again. Hopefully she grows out of it!

I have no idea why I posted that twice. I was confused because when I looked last night, none of my posts were showing up at all, but now my first post is showing up. So weird!

thanks all for the responses so for. How much pineapple or pumpkin to add to her food? I may try this first and she is about 12 lbs. currently.

I'm sorry I can't be of any help as I have never experienced this with my dogs, but I hope you find a solution soon. :)

Would it be a problem if i feed her once a day so i can monitor her better? She is almost 5 months old now and we are feeding 1/2 cup in morning and 1/2 cup in evening.

I would not suggest it since she is still growing..... but bullmama or davidh may have some advice

I would not feed only once per day, maybe try decreasing food by a small amount. Is the poop very firm or on the soft, smelly and more appetizing side? If you decrease the portion it will become more firm and maybe that will help make it not so delicious?

I've never had this issue so I'm just thinking out loud...
Alice Kable did Buster ever stop eating his poo?

I agree do not switch to once a day, in fact at that age we still feed three times a day until about 6 months of age then go to two times a day for the rest of their life.

Sometimes her stool is firm and sometimes soft and we feed the same amount every time for morning and evening feedings.

It was Ruggles eating Buster's poo. The only way we have been able to stop Ruggles is to scoop up Buster's poo before he can eat it. Luckily Buster is very regular and we have been able to do that!

Update: It has been some time now and i wanted to report about this issue. Rosie is doing much better. We are feeding her 2 tablespoons of pumpkin with each meal and she has not tried to eat her poop since then, :D:happydance: She still has a couple accidents in the house but at least she is not trying to eat it anymore. Thanks all for the help.
