Let me preface this by saying, in no way do I intend to offend anyone, breeder or buyer. This just shocked me a little.

Before finding Daisy, I had contacted the vets in my area and asked if they knew of any local French bulldog breeders. One vet clinic said that one of their large animal vets bred frenchies. I got in contact with him and discussed his dogs. He offered to let me meet one or two of his dogs sometime. He ended up calling me back and offered to meet at the clinic but I had already found Daisy so he said that I could still come meet two of his dogs and he would perform Daisy's first vet visit while I was there. Win-win for me. So we met. He checked Daisy, said everything was fine and I got to meet his dogs. Nice dogs. I told him at that time, to keep me on the waiting list and when he had a litter, he could let me know...i may want another one!!

So I've checked his French bulldog website periodically and recently he must have had a litter. There are currently 4 pups available on the website (and this is where I was shocked) ranging in price from $7,000 to $22,000. All I can tell that is special about them is that he lists their color as Lilac. There would have been no way I could have purchased one of his pups even if I had held out for one. I paid what I thought was a pretty penny for Daisy but this seems really high. Have any of you seen pups go for that much? Just curious. (And if you paid that much for your dog, more power to you. Like I said, just a little high for me.)

That is uncalled for... No reason for those prices

I live in Central Ohio, not far from you and have seen those same prices for lilac (possibly same person)....absolutely crazy!

I've also seen astronomical prices for Frenchies. Makes me wonder why there is ever a SOLD next to their names...

Guys, just to give you an idea of totally opposite prices. I live in Eastern Europe, Romania more exactly. And let me tell you something, we really love dogs here, all breeds or no breeds :). Bullies of all kinds (especially french and english) are very popular. However spending power is much lower than in western Europe or US. So laws of supply and demand make it that in Romania you pay about 300 - 600 EUROS for a frenchie puppy. I paid 350 for our new puppy (about 450 USD). So if you ever need a new puppy, i think you can get plane tickets, fly here, buy the puppy spend two weeks time on the seaside, fly back and still be better off than paying 7000$, i don't even want to think about 22 :)

Cosmin, please dont take this personally, but a lot of cheap puppies from Eastern Europe come from puppy mills and backyard breeders without papers and often really sick. I am from Germany, so unfortunately I am aware of the cheap puppies they are trying to import and sell in Germany. When you buy a Frenchie puppy from a reputable source in (lets say Germany) it will cost you between 1000-3000 €.
I do agree though, that paying 22,000$ is absolutely ridicilous & people that are purposely breeding for certain colours only to make more money, should be shut down...

Those prices aren't the norm for breeders around here. The highest I've seen is $4000. Personally, I have a very hard time buying a dog for more money than I paid for my motorcycle.

Lilac? Like, a purple dog??

I have seen these prices and higher for lilacs, chocolates, certain blues both in the French and English Bulldogs - disgusting although beautiful there usually is underlying problems and are not recognized through AKC or most others. I was fortunate enough to get red and white but that is due to a mix - a whole other kinda story.

Yes.. i've heard about this as well. Dogs being taken from Romania to Western Europe. However, you are right, if i were living in Germany I wouldn't buy a puppy coming from here. However, when we got our bullies, we knew the breeders rather well and the parents so i guess it all depends. You couldn't ask 1000-3000 EUR for a puppy as no one would pay that much here.

I have heard about astronomical prices for "lilac" bulldogs, both french and English. My vet told me about it. Crazy.

I am in shock! Only the most perfect show puppies would sell that high!

Maybe vet. care for the life of the dog is included in the price!!!

That is outrageous. The thing is, those prices don't guarantee any less health problems than a dog purchased for $3000. I know it is supply and demand, but to me, that is bordering on unethical. No offense to anyone with a non-approved color, but if he really wanted to promote the breed, he would breed only to the breed standard - not what commands the highest price.

Providence sent you Daisy girl.

I've seen those prices before...... with one breeder which I won't name but never anyone else with crazy high prices like that

Banksy was high on the price side but His dad is a champion in 22 countries so he has a great blood line.. but 22 thousand is rediculous that is seriously laughable

Even for the lower price of $7,000, that dog better be able to blink on & off in neon colors, & also be able to poop rainbows!

In my opinion he is NOT a reputable breeder and should also be thrown out if his vet practice. He is breeding for "color", for money and not for health. Taking full advantage of uninformed people who think they want the "rare" colors and will pay big money for them. There is no such thing as "rare" color. They are bred with a recessive gene, and will have more health problems than most Frenchies. I wish people would stop buying these dogs, and put these unethical breeders out of business. They are ruining the breed. Buy from a reputable breeder who breeds only to the FBDCA standard.

On Instagram I see more and more strangely coloured Frenchies. Black and tan seems to be one that is popping up more often. Or multi-coloured Frenchies, much like an Australian Shepherd colouring. I think they look weird.

You know what's really crazy... Is that this breeder is a vet! Am I right in saying that? Did I read it correctly? Even if I didn't... I do know that there is a vet in the tristate area that is selling puppies for the same exact prices... It really boggles my mind! I won't go on and on ... On a rant, but I will say that when I was "feeling out" breeders looking for Rico I had a very well crafted email that outlined everything I was looking for in regard to health testing, sex, color, pedigree... And purposely left no mention of price, as a baited hook to see who was going to talk numbers first. I'll have you know that the vet I mentioned was 1 out of maybe 2 or 3 of the 25 or so breeders I contacted that immediately came back at me with prices. Her hook was in fact that she was a vet and the first year of exams are covered.... I JUST CANT.

Well that just seems insane.

I've seen pricing in my area between $2,000-$3,500 for both pet and show quality in AKC recognized colors. I've only seen one instance of a litter in the $7,000 range and they were all fad color pups, Blues, lilacs, black & tans, liver ect. The prices for French bulldogs over the last few years has gotten pretty insane in my area. Even "frenchton" (Frenchie & Boston mix) puppies are going for several thousand now.

Oh dear lord! $22,000?! if i had that much to spare I'd get 3 or 4 more frenchies not just one lol. So much more fun and love all around
